Joseph Gordon-Levitt tweeted about Inception, fans lose their shit in the replies

- ONTD favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt recently tweeted about Inception, particularly the moment where the character Eames (played by Tom Hardy) says to Arthur (played by JGL) the classic line “You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.”

- Collectively, 2010 fandom were empowered by this recognition of the Arthur/Eames pairing as canon. From local stans to the infamous Aja, they all lost their shit in the replies and quotes.

- Despite the lack of recognizable pre-existing characters, Inception remains a fandom rarity in the amount of fic it spawned.

Were you ashamed of 2010 you who crushed on this man, ONTD? Do you still have fond feelings for Inception?

Do you have any fic recs?

i loved this movie. i even bought the special edition of the dvd that came in a little steel briefcase to mimic their dream drug thing, lmfao. i'm not one to replay movies/shows/video games, but this was one of the movies where i did re-watch a few times. i should bust it out again for nostalgia.

i think it was a fun, entertaining and visually pleasing movie - not just because i loved jgl in it with his suits, and yes, i read a ton of inception fanfics. god, that was before ao3 was a thing... how time flies tbh.
I bought that same briefcase box. Looking at it right now across the room lol
lmao! it's pretty sturdy, mine is currently underneath some books, haha.
I could not find that edition anywhere when it first came out, so I ended up with the perfectly normal Blu-Ray. So this is comment is just to say I'm jealous.

Inception fanfic is very nice to go back to, iirc there wasn't much discourse or fan wank!
And I swear all the people who posted inception fanfic had very clean and aesthetic livejournals lol

iirc there wasn't much discourse or fan wank!

there was a lot of wank between ppl who shipped arthur/eames and arthur/ariadne

Huh I don't remember any of that, but it doesn't surprise me

I didn't even know that was going on either. I just stuck to the Eames/Arthur LJ community. Back then is was easier to stay in your corner...not like Tumblr or Twitter. You had to really want to cause bother to interfere with others
the misogyny was so awful. and anyone who implied there wasn't much to any dynamics to ship them passionately was publically executed in the comments sections on fandomsecrets lmao.
this was during the time before twitter/tumblr discourse became more prominent so i think if you weren't outright looking for the wank you wouldn't have been able to see it unlike now...lmao
What a throwback, I made my tumblr account because of the Inception fandom and 11 years later I'm still there.

I think I remember someone getting a tattoo with this quote and an image of dice. How are they, I wonder.
The quality of the Arthur/Eames fanfiction AO3 continues to surprise me. Some of the stuff on there is fantastic.

This is warming my little fandom cockles.
Awww, that takes me back. Idk, I still love the movie. It's aesthetically pleasing to watch.
ia, i love the sleekness, everyone is dressed well and attractive, the sets and effects are still so cool. it doesn't look dated at all tbh, its very timeless
The Inception fandom on here was so much fun.
i watched that movie multiple times and while i read the synopsis several times as well online, i still couldn't really understand parts of it. a lot of those complex movies go right over my head, which is why i haven't watched tenet yet lol.

i think ever since i saw donnie darko i've just been very confused when it comes to OTT plots.

conversely, it's funny that i completely understand twin peaks after reading a pretty brilliant explanation/fantheory that fills in all (mostly) of the blanks.
I do still have fond memories of Inception! I saw it four times in theaters and was never bored any time. It was fun catching new things you might have missed.

I was an Ot3 Eames/Ariadne/Arthur girl myself. The fandom really knew what to do with what little we were given character wise. Bless them I even tried to dabble a bit lol
Tom Hardy has NEVER looked finer than he has in this movie. I wanted those pillowy lips around the ring of my asshole while he tongued my starfish ever since then yeesh
jesus christ
jesus christ is what i'd say when i think how lucky i am to be tonguing his starfish

but i admit it all goes back to this movie but the crush is still chugging along mostly on fumes (though i think this site fanned the flames a little)
I refuse to believe this was 11 years ago
Oh my god we were living in peak JGL era we also had 500 days of summer and 50/50 and that New Jersey movie he did with the tree

I still love JGL even though he's pretentious af. Mostly for 10 Things I Hate About You, his criticism of his 500 Days of Summer character, his friendship with Zooey, the fact that he knows he married up, and this photoshoot I still go back to and look through sometimes ngl:

The ONTD post about it was glorious. Memorieees. https://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/21763744.html
He married up with his current wife?
He has such a type tho. And I 100% believe he was in love with Zooey for awhile.
He really did lol, and he knows it. She's a math/science whiz and super gorgeous too: https://people.com/celebrity/joseph-gordon-levitt-marries-tasha-mccauley/

I can't find his quotes rn but I think he has said stuff about how lucky he is. And IA about Zooey. They would've made a cute couple
100%, he’s the house husband.
Same, I think in the wider context of Hollywood and all the assholes that continue to have careers I'm more than happy to overlook some pretentiousness. He's self-aware about it too which helps I think.

I posted in a ffa last week that I just rewatched 10 Things and was super surprised to learn afterwards that he and julia stiles dated afterwards, i had no idea!

I loved that fandom sooo much. It was my last real fandom participation....I don’t think fandom in that form really exists anymore.
And wow, Aja, a blast from the past for sure.
I loved how so many fanfic writers from my other fandoms at the time all fell in love with Eames/Arthur as well.
Nolan really could have given us the prequel/sequel we deserve
Man did I love some of the fics in this fandom. I wasn’t even a part of it. I still read my favorite fic every so often.Probably started my love of coffee/baking fics.

The Eames and Arthur shipping days were fun.
