Britney Spears Slams "Hypocritical" Documentaries' Portrayal of Her Life's "Traumatizing Times"

Since Framing Britney Spears premiered on Hulu earlier this year, there have been quite a few documentaries about Britney Spears in the works — a phenomenon that's also sparked a debate about exploitation.

Britney herself has taken to Instagram to weigh in.

After Spears said she was "deeply flattered" about "so many documentaries about me this year with other people's takes on my life," she referred to the documentaries themselves as "hypocritical."

Spears also said that despite having "pretty tough times" in her life, she's also "had waaaayyyy more amazing times," and that "unfortunately…I think the world is more interested in the negative [aspects]."

"Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago ???? I mean DAMN."

This isn't the first time Spears has addressed the renewed public interest about her career due to Framing Britney Spears. Back in March, she said he was "embarrassed by the light" the documentary "put me in."

"It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I've always been so judged...insulted...and embarrassed by the media...and I still am till this day!!!!" she said at the time.

I don’t believe she wrote that
IDK but if she did I feel like she’s being manipulated to say shit like this

I absolutely believe she wrote this.

That documentary added absolutely no new information to her story. It just legitimized crazy stans who think she is messaging them through her twirls, and treated them as experts on her just as we once treated tabloid writers as experts on her.

I can't imagine how anyone would watch something like that about themselves, and think anything other people continue to be vultures.

As for the rambling, disjointed tone and general mess - yes. Britney.
I think it would be easier to believe if she didn’t attach a non-related dancing video.
it's not at all hard to believe that she's creeped out by a microscope put in her life once again for other people's profit. I thought some of the folks in Framing Britney were creepy, like the podcast girls, and the rush of multiple new documentaries is just an infantalizing woke spin on pap culture
This is the first time one of her captions has made me think that.

That caption is all over the place. Damn, did she have a word count minimum?
I think it’s nicely segwayed
Disagree. It’s not grammatically pristine and doesn’t have a lot of big words but the argument is well-made. She gets her point across.
Let's go Britney!

It'll be interesting to see what happens on June 23th!
who is billy b that she refers to?

I agree Britney.

Also she’s a woman in her late 30s from the south. Of course she writes this way. At least she’s not a hun bot.
Honestly this seems like a string of texts I'd send my friends.

Start with one subject, tell some unrelated thoughts, tell them I hope they are well, and circle back to original subject.
"I mean DAMN"

Checks out
Waaaaay too much speculation convinced it’s fact floating around. I know people are well meaning and I think her father managing her conservatorship is harmful, but jesus. Her life isn’t your fanfic.
I love her so much but this whole situation's got me paranoid as fuck.

On the one hand it feels like this whole post may well have been carefully orchestrated by her "people" but on the other it feels incredibly condescending not to take her at her word.

Just please let her be happy.

Right? I don’t know what to believe. Because I can see Brit not liking her past brought up but she’s said she supports free Britney fans.

This caption is migraine-inducing. Damn.
Too much emojis, Brit.

I feel her though. Must be traumatic to live again and again and again, all the dark stuff she went through 10-15 years ago and people profiting from that by releasing more docs, more articles…

I hope her court hearing goes well…

Those dancing videos though… they make me cringe. 😬
She definitely did not write that, or she wrote a bit of it and the rest was that PR team. We watched the documentary!
Yeah, and everyone knows that documentaries are the absolute truth and facts and not biased at all!
The triple emojis...
it's just fun to keep pressing the button!!

people want her to be free and speak her mind but when she does they don't believe it's her because what she says doesn't fit their narrative. ontd isn't any different than her crazy fans.

Which ironic when you consider that all her career she's been called a manufactured-industry puppet. Even though songwriters and producers who've worked with her on her albums have said over and over that she is not the puppet people think she is and that she does voice her opinion constantly.

I feel like people wanna white-knight this to a degree. They do want Britney to be this broken doll who needs saving so she can get better and release an album as gratitude to them.
Right? People are angry that she's trapped in her conservatorship, yet these same people don't realize they're trapping Britney in their idea of how and who they think she could be if she were free of it. And is it REALLY that hard to believe she's upset about all the documentaries coming out about her life? I would be, too. These people don't truly care about Britney having agency and being free, they're hopping on the bandwagon to make a quick buck. Britney has every right to express that, and her having a unique way of expressing that does not automatically mean she's being forced to write it or someone is going undercover via her account. I'm starting to think a lot of her fans and "fans" are more concerned with appearing to be concerned for her because that's the popular thing right now, rather than ACTUALLY being concerned and wanting the best for her.
This so much!
I've noticed lately in"woke" circles that people are really into taking away women's agency and making it seem like they're incapable of making choices on thier own and get forced to do everything
Some of you who claim to be fans of Britney have no clue how much you contribute to the toxicity that constantly surrounds this woman and makes her life hell. It reminds me of that friend of Demi Lovato's who her stans blamed for two years for causing Demi's overdose and essentially ruined the girl's life despite none of the speculation being true. Jamie is trash and needs to be removed and Britney will say what she wants to say in court in June but none of you know this woman or her life the way you've convinced yourselves you do.

Exactly! To me, they aren't actually fans. If they were, they would stay out of her personal affairs and support her from afar.

I have no doubt she wrote this. Britney has never been the best at articulating her thoughts. And that is okay. It doesn't mean someone else wrote this.
thank you

its really upsetting that people took the part of the britney case that actually has consequences (the ableism and ridic laws around conservatorships) and decided to more or less ignore that and turn into conspiracy theorists looking for britney's secret messages. Very cool, guys!

The media and public that profited from her downfall, that led to a cship, now enjoy docs about her cship...it’s all hypocritical, not just from the media, but also from the public.

Yeah this is why I do believe she writes her own stuff. She even mentions that she has her ups and downs but her ups are more important to her but everyone always wants to focus on the negative. She legit said similar things in the for the record doc- she likes to move forward and not dwell on the past.

With so many documentaries coming out it is starting to feel exploitive. She has her whole life dissected by the media and now many are continuing that trend. They are just doing it under the guise of trying to help Britney and some of the Free Britney folks will eat it up as it fits the narrative they want. Yes, there is a lot about who situation that is sketchy but too many fans don't understand when they are crossing the line.
