Ridiculous Starbucks Drink Orders Go Viral

It started when a Starbucks barista (Josie) shared a very detailed drink order he made on May 1st. He captioned the image with, “On todays episode of why i wanna quit my job.” Ashley Nicole Black from HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show responded, “I knew it had to be an app order. No one would order that out loud making eye contact.”

[Anotha Cut]

You get the idea, more in the replies of the original tweet.

ONTD, what do you order at SBux? 👀

retail food service works DO NOT MAKE ENOUGH for this bullshit. At best we get to laugh with each other after this person leaves in a 'girl, WTF' way at worst it's just exhausting
it is TOUGH, I am always so patient with food service workers.
I worked one month at a burrito place (got fired lmao) but even in that time frame, the ridiculous requests... the level of bitching and moaning if you squeezed even a little too much sour cream etc on their shit..
lol Employees talking to their friends instead of serving customers, and then acting like the customers are the rude ones is a classic Starbucks/coffee shop experience.

the worst (for me) is that (in addition to the crap pay) you MUST be nice about it. like if you could just speak your truth and say "hey gal, that's a lot! and i'm worried about your blood sugar levels. i'm gonna do it for you, but give me a minute" it wouldn't feel so damn oppressive. at least to me.

yep. i worked as a barista way back when i was like 19-20 for a small local chain. i had this one regular who wanted the milk for her coffee served hot. like scalding, bloody murder hot. one time i served her her coffee and she touched the cup, then berated me for not making the milk hot enough and she made me redo the whole order in front of her so she could see the temperature of the milk. she started bringing her own thermometer after that. i did not like her because that milk we had to make super hot for her had to be wasted out every time she came in since nobody on this planet takes milk that fucking hot.

When I worked at the cinema, there were customers who would order a "heart attack amount of butter" on their popcorn (literally how they would phrase it) and then watch me closely while I applied it. If I stopped before they were satisfied, they would make a sound, as if they were scolding a pet dog, signaling for me to keep going. I also had some of those same customers proceed to yell at me for putting... too much. With some people, you just can't win. I would also have people request that I put one piece of ice at a time into their cup because they only wanted a certain amount and they would yell at me if more than one piece fell from the scooper we used to serve it. People would threaten to kick my ass after work because we ran out of certain items, punch the box office glass window if we sold out of showings, claim the popcorn was cold when I had served them a fresh batch directly out of the popper and then tell me to "fuck off" when I pointed this out, etc.

On one hand, I realized I was capable of surviving almost anything after making it nearly four years at that job. On the other, I now hate going to the movies and I lost a lot of faith in both movie goers and the general public (everything from 2016 to the present certainly didn't help, lol), so that's a bummer.

As a former barista I co-sign the hell out of this
Honestly, I'm too intimidated to order like this. I always just get a tea latté.
Same. Thats also why i dont go to Starbucks bc i get confused on how to order and dont want to look like an idiot.
same, i got a drink in the drive-thru yesterday and i felt embarrassed just clarifying that the order was iced and not hot
we want you to specify hot or iced! it's important in getting your drink accurate and perfect. <3

Meanwhile, if I order a coffee one way (we'll say hot) and they give it to me another way (iced), I just roll with it because I know they aren't paid enough to deal with the daily bullshit from abusive customers and I want to make their day easier lmao.
I know right? I just order a chai latte on the rocks
Right!!!! WTH do people need "7 pumps of [x, y, z syrup]" for?

I like my stuff simple lol

I have too much social anxiety to be ordering one item with this many instructions. I'd rather just make it myself if I'm that picky.
I'm sure your body is very thankful for that.
I wouldn't even know how tbh. I always just do frappucinos there or hot chocolate with maybe soymilk and that's as fancy as I get!
right. Just asking for oat milk is enough for me.
I feel bad ordering a soya chai without water! I just think it tastes better!

You’d never get an order like that here. We don’t have the same bells and whistles in Ireland.

My most complicated order is an oat milk latte with one pump of vanilla lol. Its so good but if I feel weird being that specific idk how people do these long ass orders with a straight face
lol same, man. Ever since I worked in food service I want to make life easier for other food service workers so I keep it simple
I once read that sometimes these crazy orders are quality assurance tests of the app, and that is what I choose to believe 😌

I usually get a venti cold brew, light coconut milk, 2 pumps classic, but only on days when I was too lazy to make my cold brew at home. I make a gallon and it lasts me a week but sometimes I’m too lazy at night to grind the beans for it. It’s saves time/money (wayyy cheaper), but straining it after is always so annoying. It can take like 30 mins in total and some days I can’t be bothered.
That's the only reason I could see these getting sent through - even if you love super sweet things so many of these orders have combos of flavors that would be inedible on top of expensive.
I was just wondering how you can even taste if they put your 85 different flavored sauces and powders in your drink

At my old job we were subject to government regulations and if something really crazy came through we’d laugh nervously and wonder if it was a sting operation to test us (another company that did the same work got shut down that way).
you can make your cold brew in a french press.
easy peasy strain. :)
I definitely had people that would order these when they had birthday rewards. A lot of people just don't get that once you hit a certain level of sugar it'll just taste like sugar
at this point like... make some beverage yourself at home? this is so specific and time-consuming to make, I imagine (and side note, sounds gross tasting, lol)
idk maaan. this is coming from someone who is generally an introvert who won't ask for something else if I don't like my dish at a restaurant, etc so make of that what you will lol.

i'm a simple bitch so i usually just get an iced green tea (venti, unsweetened) and a plain bagel with avocado spread cuz i am addicted to that spread lmao. i have some in the fridge rn but no bagel for it! 😩
what a cute kitty
>double blended

I mean when you put 5 bananas in it, you sorta have to.

I just get either an iced coffee with mocha syrup and coconut milk or a iced coconut mocha macchiato (whenever it's in season, or I just get a caramel macchiato with coconutmilk and mocha drizzle)
Coconut mocha anything is just the best
Right! Their coconut milk is the best too 😋

Apparently these are some of the more complicated drinks to make (and they’re on the menu!) and I felt a bit bad for it until my friend who worked there was like “hey it breaks the monotony! Order it!”
I find a lot of cold brew drinks from tik tok or a website called totally the bomb.com like hot chocolate cold brew, toasted marshmallow cold brew and etc, I have the recipe in my notes on my phone lol
Any good recs? I suck at making coffee so I go to DD alot.
I don’t like coffee, but I like cold brews, hot chocolate cold brew, cookies and cream cold brew is good, covered chocolate strawberries cold brew is good
I'm not a coffee person so I only go into Starbucks when I want a refresher; but I'm too awkward to make things really custom even when I have the option.

Like just make it the way you want to make it and I will deal.
i love their refreshers but feel like they haven't put out a new one in so long!
Same.
what is this banana people are adding??? Like an actual banana????? 🤢

(If frozen I mean I guess but go to Jamba Juice for ur smoothies is2g)
Starbucks sells bananas for $1 so they add it in (maybe to be "healthy" ??)
vom @ all that caramel drizzle
These drinks all look repulsive.

At Starbucks I order a Venti iced coffee with an add shot, 3 pumps sf vanilla, 3 pumps sf cinnamon dolce, heavy cream.

But ever since the pandemic I've just been collecting sf syrups from Jordan's skinny mixes, and making coffee at home because it's cheaper and I wfh now... and tbh my coffees are fire.
like heavy cream instead of milk???
yes
that doesn't sound that different than the order in the post lol
How did you get to the number of 3 pumps? Did you order with 2 pumps and decide it wasn't enough? Have you tried 4 pumps as well?

I don't drink coffee so I don't understand where these highly specific yet seemingly magic numbers come from...

Curious could you get in trouble for revealing the name should the person who ordered found out? I know there is no face or last name attached so it's still somewhat anonymous....but negl if I was this person and I saw this on twitter....I'd be embarrassed and/or pissed for someone putting out my business out there.

I see some tweeters were smart enough to block out the names and any other info.

Idk some people are petty and go hard for retribution lol.
They don't care. Read /r/starbucks to see how much they hate customers
Thx, new sub to peep in on.
To be fair, most service jobs, especially food service, don’t pay enough for workers to actually care. And then customers come in thinking they’re better than workers because they (or their spouses) make more than them, so they act all entitled and take everything out on workers. I really do resent people that treat others like garbage due to perceived status.
almost as much as walmart workers hate all humans
I feel like a person who orders a drink like this would love all the attention they're getting lmao

I haven't worked at starbucks in over a decade but I would LOVE to make some customer lose it over me shitposting their order on reddit.
I think there are so many in the states and names are common. Also if you (customer) are ashamed by your order going public you should change it lmao
I would never give my real name if I ordered any of these lmao
Omg
I'm so confused tbh, how do people even come up with these??
FIVE BANANA? I wanna know how much this monstrosity cost
I thought I was crazy or blind when I saw that.
1 banana was 1 dollar in 2016, so that's already $5

https://www.reddit.com/r/starbucks/comments/4qc0nw/how_much_actually_do_addins_cost/
it's one banana Michael how much could it cost!!
They screw up my drink the majority of the time, and then have such an attitude when I nicely say something. I've been thinking of just quitting Starbucks.
Omg I went to Starbucks today and they left something off my mobile order and were soooo rude and didn't believe me! I'm super polite to service workers and I've never had that happen before. It made me feel awful, I usually will just let it go but they forgot an entire item (just a piece of cake lol) and I thought it would be very easy for them to just give it to me but they acted like I was trying to scam them :/
my service worker friends have been saying that the first few months of the pandemic it was only the most rank assholes who were eating out / ordering stuff. so who knows what they've been through

not defending them, just wondering how bad it was. i know the real enemy is the corporation for making the job shitty but ya it sucks to be yelled at and feel powerless as a customer
dont take it personally, these folks are young and overworked. tbh i would expect them to have attitudes.
that's so sad you had that experience. I've worked there and handing out a free loaf is a super easy fix, i would've apologized for the mistake and probably smuggled you a free cake pop lol. It's different when someone is clearly lying, like I heard them say how they wanted their drink and then they claimed they said iced/hot or a different type of sandwich, because they know we aren't going to take it back from them and they'll get a freebie. Even then we're taught to just give it to them. It's not like i'm paying for it, so as long as they don't give me an attitude I would shrug it off.
I'm a simple bitch so I only ever get chai lattes and I rarely ever go to Starbucks, but I went there last week because it was convenient and they didn't put chai in it?? Just a cup of hot milk??? When I went back and asked for the concentrate to just pour in myself, I got a huge eye roll from the barista and he just gave me a brand new box of the concentrate and said "knock yourself out." I worked there in college so I get people complain about the dumbest shit but now I want to always say I didn't get concentrate to see if it leaves me with a brand new box of it to take home 😂
