‘Mank’ Wins Top Honor at ASC Awards https://t.co/Tw4W2VWUOS— Variety (@Variety) April 18, 2021
In the final pre-Oscar weekend, Hollywood's remaining guilds got their awards out, chief among them the American Society of Cinematographers, which was in the tank for Mank (shoulda known by having his grandson host again!).
On the TV side, awards went to The Crown, The Mandalorian, Motherland: Fort Salem (which this user had never heard of before, but it beat Better Call Saul), and The Queen's Gambit, which completed a historic sweep of the guild awards this weekend, something only previously done by the final season of Breaking Bad. Some of its wins this weekend were a particular show of strength since, due to different nomination windows, it beat last year's juggernaut Watchmen not just at the ASC but with the American Cinema Editors and the Cinema Audio Society. As Walter White would say, nothing stops this train.
