She's racist and a bad cook. One of her worst parts is forgotten, but I think it's important. She hid the fact that she had diabetes (while pumping butter and sugar dreams into viewers) and timing her connection to pharma ads and making a buck. She's awful on levels and I wouldn't trust her to judge food, nevermind another person.

And is her apology for being racist still online somewhere? That needs to be remembered. It was a MESS. That was top-tier failing at apologizing via a celebrity, and unfortunately, she was was a celeb then.
Which apology?
I remember 3 truly awful apologies/statements.
I just remember her apology being a big mess of her veneers, bad mascara and baby boomer apologizing.
Lord Iron Chef Morimoto & Emeril deserve better.
Hell so does Aarón Sánchez- I wish he was still on Chopped.

Can't wait to see another Indian cook get berated for making their own food more than once while Gordon stays gatekeeper of Indian cuisine.
Fuck yes King Iron Chef Morimoto!!!!
i really like aaron sanchez! idk why or how but he’s one of my fave judges from chopped.
Aaron is great, and the tacos at his restaurant are diviiiine
Hmph.
I've never eaten at her restaurant but I don't ever care to. Anyway what's your favorite southern dish? Mine is country ham and biscuits and also coconut cake
Shrimp and grits <3

I fry the shrimp and then dip them in boom boom shrimp sauce from Walmart and top with chopped scallions.
Ooh yum. I'm not a shrimp person or a grits person but one of my favorite restaurants serves it and made me love the dish!

I looove shrimp and grits, goddamn I haven't had it in about 2 years somehow.
This is sooooo the right answer. Only other southern dish that comes close is gumbo

I like regular ham & biscuits, country ham is too salty (and I am a native of Virginia where is is popular). Fried okra & hush puppies are good. North Carolina barbeque (pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw).

I do like fried chicken but almost never eat it now because I try to eat healthier.
As a former Savannahian, I can attest that her and her sons' restaurant is garbage.

Also, she has good recipes and they are free online so don't give this racist monster any money or attention.

Y'all.
omg, your icon :)
I'm so glad I stopped watching this repetitive bullshit show years ago. Gordon is insufferable.
All of everything Gordon is involved with is so repetitive.
Watching him continue to do a weak imitation of his chef-daddy, Marco Pierre White, has and always will be laughable.
Even Marco's calmed the fuck down and become a quietly menacing eminence grise but Gordon's still out there, yelling at contestants and trying to dominate them with his cooking.
mte. i stopped watching after courtney won. i remember how pissed i was when she won.
🦋
is this cancel culture?
I ate at her restaurant in Savannah when I was like 15 and it was the worst restaurant meal I have ever had.
well fuck. i guess i'll be waiting for masterchef junior to return.
Gordon's trash anyway so I'm not even surprised.
This racist velociraptor needs to get the fuck out!
oh lord

meanwhile, all I can think of is this video a friend showed me years ago of her & one of her black chefs that was dubbed over to make fun of her. That and how her restaurant was my cousin's favorite and him not realizing it until the original mess popped up & it then not being so anymore
This is related.

J. Kenji López-Alt did a recent insta video about how Gordon Ramsey and that style of leadership is awful and horrible and bad for cooks, a place, an employee, etc. Just an ugly mindset that is not funny and he expressed how it trickles down, as he's an influential person. Teaching doesn't require fear and despite that it's Ramsey's brand, it's ugly and unnecessary. I believe this is important, regardless of where one works.

Lopez-Alt also has had the best pandemic "I'm filming this and you can watch" videos. I'm currently into his move and ranking bagels. His recent tuna melt recipe was unmessy, except it was.
It seems women get the worst of these types of toxic enviroments too :(
Absolutely they do. Or perhaps the dishwasher who is underpaid and doing their thing and just trying to get on their their feet, or trying to start, or just new.

Intimidation tactics aren't funny or interesting, IMO. Yelling is part of those and it's a big turn off and it being normalized is FUCKED UP.

That should never be part of a process in kitchen or any place of employment.

Gordon Ramsay has pretty much single-handedly made bullying completely acceptable in the hospitality industry. I hate him so much. I also hate his “But he’s just telling it like it is/yelling at those who deserve it/always nice to kids” apologists. Fuck all Gordon Ramsay fans - you’re propping up a monster.

he came to my hometown and burned the local white bread owner of the restaurant for having a shitty attitude and fighting her customers on yelp, and to this day I get a lot of joy out of that
I actually thought he was too nice to her. their restaurant that he renovated burned in a fire recently, and I bet it was because, like they showed on the episode, they hadn't dumped their grease traps in years.

Gordon's behavior on Kitchen Nightmares BBC is so different from the American version. The American version he's very aggressive and bullying. The British version he's calm and joking but strict and only disciplines when needed.
Disgusting but not surprising, culinary industry thrives on racism.
legends that could've replaced her:
-nathalie dupree
-kelly fields
-mashama bailey
My mom LOVED Nathalie Dupree
