Demi Lovato Says DMX OD Scared Her, It Could Have Been Me



Demi Lovato says she feels ‘survivor’s guilt’ in wake of DMX overdose reports. "Anytime that I see somebody OD or even pass away that's in the public eye, I immediately think, 'That could have been you had you not been putting all this work in to the last couple years of your life,'" the 28-year-old "The Art of Starting Over" singer shared. "There's times where I've even talked about feeling survivor's guilt because you do ask yourself why am I still here? Why are others not? It's a challenging thing to get over." The Camp Rock Star confesses, "Every day I am here on this earth is a day I count my blessings".

The thing about it is that it still could be Demi because DMX is 50 and has been struggling with addiction for years including going to rehab as recently as 2019. Demi is still only 28, and we don’t know what the future holds for her. Hopefully, whatever she’s doing now works but recovery is a lifelong process. The “work” (as she calls it) doesn’t ever really stop.

I hope I do not have to hear about Demi again soon. It never seems to be good news when she’s posted about here.

it concerned me when everyone in the doc, including her, was saying 'we don't have to worry anymore we know she's got this' and like...no..that's not how it works. Recovery isn't a linear process. Going purely by statistics in the field, she will relapse. I don't say that to be mean, just realistic. In one of the earlier parts of the doc she talked about '7 months of spiritual growth' which yes should be applauded but it is not even CLOSE to being enough to unpack a lifetime of trauma (which is the root cause of addiction!!) and if she's using that as part of her reasoning for the moderation thing being ok to try now...I worry

ia that felt very fake and contrived for the sake of slapping on a hopeful ending

a more realistic, nuanced doc would've had her friends and family admitting: "I don't know if she'll make it, but I will do my best to help her and pray she does"

that would also be way more realistic and honest to others struggling with these issues, including addicts in their own families.

She clearly hasn't gotten to the part of her recovery where she realizes and knows that she's is more than her addiction. And I don't know if she's ever going to get there if her whole brand/persona is addiction and recovery.

I understand that she was led to sharing about herself in how the questions were asked (instead of just randomly going there herself), but when the question ends she still has the agency to not reply like this - with the "putting the work" comments mentioned above, or basically putting herself in that situation.

After watching the leading question and her answer I am wondering more why the hell did she do an interview with TMZ? Gross. And what she said, absolutely disgusting it's not the time to be saying shit like this he's not even passed away yet. His family is just beginning to mourn like come the fuck on.

how does a 28 year old woman say something so thoughtless, egotistical, and rude? she doesn’t give a fuck whether DMX lives or dies obviously and is too immature and self-centered to tell an interviewer “i dont know them, i wish the best”
