Dear #DonaldWilliams, For what you did that day and for how you stood strong today, thank you.— Ava DuVernay (@ava) March 30, 2021
Question: Did you make a 911 call?
Williams: I did call the police on the police.
Question: Why'd you do that?
Williams: I believe I witnessed a murder.
Today was day two of the murder trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd last year.
Highlights (some details are very distressing):
Six witnesses were interviewed, including 4 minors.
The defense repeatedly tried to paint former MMA fighter and security guard Donald Williams as an "angry" bystander to which he replied that he was controlled and professional.
From then 17 year old Darnella Frazier who filmed death of George Floyd: "There have been nights I stayed up apologizing & apologizing to George Floyd for not doing more & not physically interacting & not saving his life. But it’s like not what I should have done, it’s what he should have done."
A 9 year old witness said she saw Chauvin put more weight of George Floyd's neck as he and the crowd pleaded with Chauvin to stop. "The ambulance had to push him off him. They asked him nicely to get off him. He still stayed on."
Off-duty firefighter and EMT Genevieve Hansen testified that she pleaded with the police to let her administer aid and she felt 'totally distressed' that she was not allowed to help him. After Floyd was taken away she called the officers a bitch, "I got quite angry after Mr. Floyd was loaded into the ambulance & there was no point in trying to reason with them anymore because they had just killed somebody," and stayed at the scene because she was concerned they would retaliate against the witnesses who were mostly POC. The judge got mad at her for arguing with the defense council and ended the day's session.
So pathetic that there is a trial to prove that Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd when there is video of him doing so.— Chelsea Handler (@chelseahandler) March 30, 2021
Eric Nelson’s line of questioning is so fucking pathetic good grief#JusticeForGeorgeFloyd— Sarah Silverman (@SarahKSilverman) March 30, 2021
Firefighter #GenevieveHansen is a hero. She is doing her best to make sure the truth gets out. And on that witness stand, she will NOT let them twist her words or paint the picture “pretty”.— yvette nicole brown (@YNB) March 30, 2021
She witnessed a murder.
She is there to testify about it. #DerekChauvinTrial https://t.co/nohkPRYILn
