Gen Z vs. Millenials: Hair Edition

A debate is raging on TikTok that is even more divisive than politics. In fact, it's about how you divide the hair on your head.

Gen Z'ers believe that center parts are where it's at. They think that your side part makes you look like an Old! Meanwhile, Millenials + Gen X + Gen Y are into side parts.

America is split... down the center and down the sides!

Which way do u part your hair?

Center
194(21.4%)
Side
475(52.4%)
Both
189(20.9%)
Neither
48(5.3%)

Ready for some hair wank? what's your hair look like now, ONTD?

im a millennial and i have been parting in the center for like 4 years now. will never go back to side.
I've been doing it my whole life because it just works for me - even back when it was unfashionable and tragique. It's nice to be on trend again I guess, although I don't really care too much. It will inevitably fall out of trend in due course.

Maybe the next time it's back on trend, I'll be old and dying and the new generation of kids will be cursing the zoomers for not doing enough to fight climate change, will tell me my grey middle-part is blorp blorp (new slang for cool), will ask me what it was like to live through the Trump years so they can ace their history projects, but will then go on to shame me for being fully human and not some human-machine cyborg.
Same, I look stupid with a side part so i have never had one
same!! until this past month or so it never occurred to me how literally no one ive ever known has had a middle part. I have always wanted to do a side part but couldn't make it work, so I got gently roasted every so often for my middle part but i really really didnt realize how rare it was among my peers. In 2014 a coworker said i looked like a kardashian because of my middle part which I thought was weird but I guess they were the ones doing middle parts back then

me too! i will never change this
exact same. side part feels so dated and preppy to me now, plus the middle part suits my face better. i'll never go back either.
I'm a millennial as well. I'm also lazy as shit, and for some reason I have never been inspired to put a lot of effort into my hair. I am lucky that washing it and brushing it is basically all I have to do for it to look presentable, so I always just let it part naturally, which has been a middle part. The few times I'd get my hair cut and they tried to give me a side part, it felt weird and I'd adjust it back to the middle as soon as I left.

I legit had no idea that hair parting was such a hotly debated thing until I recently started seeing memes pop up about middle parts.
Same! I used to think a middle part was ugly on me or that my face looked bad with one but I was so wrong lol.
Same and it’s been such a load off my shoulders, when i was side parting i was super insecure of my face, it had to fall in a certain perfect way, i was so obsessive and stressed about it, then i got a little older and just took a step back and realized how much energy being like that was consuming. So i parted my hair down the middle and never looked back, and after wearing it like that for a while i realized how much better it actually did look.
I need something to deflect from this fivehead.
My hair is almost always in a bun. Sometimes I braid it. I rarely just wear it loose. But when I do I've always just done a center part. lmao. I was a head of the times! I'm a cool millenial!
My hair looks better/definitely has more body when parted on the side, but I'm lazy so center part where it falls naturally it is.
This. Side parted diagonally it looks better, but I ain't gonna work to get it to stay there.
Now that it’s been almost a year since my last haircut, my bangs are to the point where a side part keeps them from looking too tragic. It’s the first time I’ve had a side part in about 30 years and I’m actually liking that it’s making me look more ~mature
haha, replied to the wrong post and it won’t let me edit, so I’ll add that I’m also extremely lazy (I don’t even use a blow dryer) so parting my hair is like a major change
going on over 30 years of a center part. it's almost impossible to get my hair to part on the side at this point lol
This is me! haha I've tried side parts back when they were popular, but my hair has no desire to be dictated to. It does what it wants, when it wants. So I'll most likely be rocking a center part until the day I die, no matter what the fashion trend is trying to tell it.
Clip it in the position you want and blowdry it
you try and comb it to the side and your hairbrush just snaps in half haha
I have had a natural middle part for years and getting into the HAIM sisters really led me to embrace it so now I'm just reveling in my previously mocked hairstyle finally being "in".
I usually start with a center part and as a result of running my hands through it constantly it ends up in a side part. But honestly it's in a ponytail or messy bun 99.999% of the time
Bye
side part til I die. I've never even switched the part like I'm supposed to cause I need to subtly hide the left side of my face.
i have a natural side part. sorry gen z is jealous i guess
Same here.
Middle looks just dumb on me 🤣
side part for life. center makes my face way too round.
Not great, tbh! I have full, blunt bangs (which I'm sure also marks me as a millennial, I don't care), so no part, and my hair is long as hell. My last real cut was December 2019, but I had my husband give me a trim out of desperation a couple of months ago. Really looking forward to getting a goddamn haircut!!!
I look like one of those sister wives, my hair is so long and tragic.
same. lmao. I mean, I'm very lazy about styling my hair so this was an issue for me even pre-pandemic. But it's waaaaay worse now.
girl my hair is down to my butt and idc, just embrace the cult look / norwegian death metal realness
lol my hair was getting so long that it kept getting caught under, like, my armpit, so I finally caved in and cut it myself. It's just a little below my shoulders now.
I had straight blunt bangs for a long time too, until about a year ago I switched to the more shaggy/layered/center part type of bang. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it but they're so much easier to style-I used to have to blow dry my bangs every day, now I almost never do.

But do you, of course. I still think straight bangs look good.

My natural part is to the side but I've been forcing a center part line for about 5 years. I much prefer the center look.
Uhhmmm yeah no I'm not going to take fashion advice from genzees who are obsessed with the ugliest trends from the 90s.
There are some cute 90s trends that came back due to Gen Z, but like... some of them, I question the choices!!!

Like mom jeans. NO. That will literally only look good on people who are thin and beautiful. Us regulars cannot wear jeans like that.
If these children bring back carpenter jeans I will fucking riot.

those hideous rib-knit tees with an embroidered butterfly or some other shit that causes the ribbing to become distorted. y'all look like shit, kids.
And like... millennials/Gen X actually lived through the 90s and the style when it was original. Leave us alone!
gen z sure hate millenials but love to steal our OG fashion/style
From people who ate tide pods
I prefer a side part, though I am currently sporting a center part.

I look like a member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (braids) right now. I don't feel like doing my hair. I was reading earlier this week that Gen-Z is also against skinny jeans and the laugh/cry emoji.
Side part! I also have sideswept bangs and have for the last like 15 years. I tried growing them out at the beginning of the panorama but my hair grows so fucking slowly that by 5 months in there was barely a change. In a fit of pique I cut them again and that's been that.
I’m too afraid to cut my bangs, so I’ve resorted to a desperation side part to try and give my face some balance. I can’t do a center part with no bangs — my head is shaped like a giant tic tac, so it’s just so loooooong without the side part or a good set of bangs to break the line
It parts itself. I could give a shit less.
I'm bad at dealing with my hair texture when I'm depressed so my default "I'm not going to interact with people" look is blind center-parted pigtails.

When I take them out the part stays and I always feel like I look childish even when the pigtails are gone, so maybe there's something to this theory.
