Emma Watson allegedly engaged, also apparently retired from acting

Emma Watson has reportedly gone 'dormant' career-wise, according to her agent/publicist. This is Hollywood lingo for 'she's given up acting', according to the DM.

Checking her IMDb, this may not be a surprise since she filmed one movie in the past five years (only because Emma Stone dropped out of 'Little Women' at the last minute and Sony/Amazing Amy was desperate to work with her).

-- Is allegedly stepping down to spend time with rumored fiance Leo Robinton.
-- Apparently lives in seclusion in Ibiza where she's living the rich tax-evading life of drinking smoothies and reading the papers, as per the final journalists at the Mail. I guess I would too with a net worth of $80M.
-- Her PR people state she 'is not taking on new commitments'.

For those who may not believe the Mail, Emma's official Instagram is using the same 'dormant' lingo, for the past few months (whatever that means): https://www.instagram.com/emmawatson/

She should dedicate her life to academia and social issues if anything. She's not a good actress and that's ok!! She made so much money and she's obviously a very smart woman who now has the means to live a lavish life and endlessly go to school and publish papers and just dedicate herself to academia. I would do that if I could.
I feel like this is what she'll end up doing. I can see her continuing to do activism work and speaking engagements.
Honestly when Bridgit Mendler is out here publishing studies for MIT...Emma has all the time and money in the world lol

my coworkers see her as their crush/fave for looks and acting

I...just stay quiet.

(not excusing ppl being icky towards her tho)
Good for her. We will miss her for childhood reasons but best of luck
🤷🏽‍♀️
At least she has her education. She always valued that above all else
What’s her hot brother doing?
Not you.

I always thought she was an incredibly mediocre actress so.....that's okay.
Whew. When ONTD decides they hate a woman...
Defending a greedy tax evader :/
Oh honey 😂🤣
You know that people aren’t insulting her because of taxes.

I mean if you think she's the only celebrity evading taxes I have a bridge to sell you.

Sometimes I wonder what I would do if I could retire that young. Probably continue to binge TV shows lol.

I was never a huge fan but Emma brought a lot of life to Hermione in the movies. I'm reading Sorcerer's Stone for the millionth time and I automatically hear her voice when I read Hermione's dialogue.
I’ve just finished reading all 7 to my kid and same. Her, Snape and McGonagall have the most distinct voices. Stating the obvious here but y’know.
Aw, that's so sweet.

I love reading out loud but I don't have kids lol. That's great that you did that for your child :)

It’s funny what voices we pick up on. For me it’s Malfoy Snr, Molly Weasley and Voldemort. I haven’t done a re-read in years but can still hear Ralph Fiennes snapping, “Get up, get up.”

Maybe in 50 years I’ll still be around to see the kind of adaptation of the books I’d like — gritty, indie, atmospheric.
Well she’s not good so… ok.
More rich actors should retire, I'm tired of seeing the same people.
I know celebrities have to deal with so much crap personally but it must be nice to have the choice to not work and lie on a beach for a year sigh.

What has she been doing if she hasn’t filmed a movie aside from Little Women for essentially half a decade? I know she does activism work but like, all the time?

I wish she'd never been cast as Hermione. I'll never forget her constant complaining about how ugly her hair and wardrobe were in the first movie. My 10 year old self was so excited to see a character like Hermione on screen, but aspects of the character that I found important and related to were erased because Emma found them unappealing.

Yeah, as an adult I don't really blame her for this, because she was a kid, but when I was a kid and watched those movies, I hated her. They basically made her a cute sidekick first and actual Hermione from the books second.
Yeah I didn't blame her for this as an adult either but I recall she actually made similar comments in her early-mid twenties, which is old enough to know better, especially as someone who champions feminism. It's been ages and I really should be over this haha, but Hermione was so important to me as a kid and there weren't as many interesting female characters around back then.
