'Clarice' debuts tonight; reviews are mixed

The 'Silence of the Lambs' spinoff Clarice debuts tonight. Reviews are decidely mixed; RottenTomatoes has a rating of 44% with the consensus being "Effectively grim, but narratively bland, Clarice is a disturbingly safe procedural that lets down both its talented cast and source material."

Many critics have unfavorably compared the show to NBC's Hannibal in addition the original film; Clarice is forbidden from depicting or referencing Dr. Lecter in any capacity (as a sidenote Bryan Fuller and the Hannibal producers tried to reach a compromise that would allow both shows to feature each other's leads but the Clarice rights holders turned it down) and his complete absence is the elephant in the room for a lot of people. The result is a show that is more or less another crime procedural like Criminal Minds or Law and Order: SVU.

On a more positive note Rebecca Breeds has been praised for her performance of the lead character by most critics.
