Netflix buys Lord and Miller animated film "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" from Sony https://t.co/WX9CMq1PWg— Variety (@Variety) January 21, 2021
Today in "Finally, Good naming conventions return!" news, Sony Pictures Animation ("Peter Rabbit", something with a Spider-man) has sold it's long-gestating Lord and Miller movie "Connected" (Formerly known as "The Mitchells vs. The Machines") to Netflix (Who has changed the name back to "The Mitchells vs. The Machines", which is WAY BETTER AND I AM GLAD).
Sony had planned to release the film theatrically on March 12 before Netflix acquired worldwide rights.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has said they want to grow to challenge Disney in the animation department. They got a long way to go, but a Lord and Miller production will certainly help them out.
“The Mitchells vs. The Machines” is about an everyday family’s struggle to relate while technology rises up around the world. The film centers on Katie (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a creative type who gets accepted into her dream film school. Before she begins college, her dad (Danny McBride) decides that driving her to school is the perfect opportunity to bond as a family one last time. But as they unplug and hit the road, technology threatens their trip — and the Earth.
The trailer came out months ago, you can go find it (probably under 'Connected'). No word on when it'll actually release.
I REFUSED to call this Connected so I'm glad my personal vendetta is vindicated!!!
