Real Housewives of Dallas' Stephanie Hollman has been a fan favourite since the show first premiered in 2016. Over the past four seasons she has never had a bad edit and is presented as the voice of reason within the cast. If you visit any Real Housewives blogs, social media, forums, etc you will see her described as "a real life Disney princess", "pure", "sweet", "down to earth", "kind", "beautiful inside and out" and other similar things. (This blog post is a great example of the pedestal Stephanie has been placed on by fans.) However, taking a look at her political donations, which are public record via the Federal Election Commision website, show that her political views are in stark contrast with the nice image she likes to portray.
While I know that a Real Housewive of Dallas cast member being a Republican is not shocking news, it is important to point out in Stephanie's situation. The show has had two racism scandals in the past year. The first being LeeAnne Locken making racist comments towards Mexican cast member, Kary Brittingham and the second being a video leaking of Stephanie's best friend, Brandi Redmond, mocking Asian accents and eyes. Stephanie condemned LeeAnne's comments as racist but defended Brandi, calling it a "mistake" that Brandi was "learning and growing" from.
Stephanie giving an opinion on either situation without being held accountable for her political views and donations is problematic as she is portrayed as a voice of reason. Fans trust her, respect her and can be easily influenced by her. Her consistent support of Beth Van Duyne is questionable on its own. Van Duyne was elected to congress in the 2020 election and voted to object to electors from Pennsylvannia this past Wednesday. Prior to being elected to congress, Van Duyne was a city councillor for/later the mayor of Irving, Texas. During her time as mayor, she made headlines for pushing a city council vote for a resolution in support of a bill in the Texas legislature to ban sharia law. This was influenced by a false report by Breitbart claiming that Dallas-Fort Worth was following sharia law. She made headlines, that same year, for defending the Irving police in arrested a 14 year old Black, Muslim boy for bringing a clock he made to school. In 2017, Van Duyne announced she would not seek a third term as mayor in order to join the Trump administration.
During season 3 of the Real Housewives of Dallas, Stephanie used her struggle with depression and past suicide attempt as part of her storyline which only bolstered her support and respect from fans. This while voting for and funding politicians who actively harm the mental health of POC and make mental healthcare largely inaccessible for the poor. In 2017, she publicized that she had donated bone marrow to a stranger while voting for and funding politicians who do not support afforable healthcare for all. In 2018, she and her husband announced that they were funding post-secondary education at North Lake College for their employees and their spouses/children. (OP can't confirm this theory but her husband owns a business that makes lockers. Put two and two together and this was clearly a PR move for both her husband's company and the college. I assume the tuition is being paid with a steep discount.) Along with this, she has also exploited her son's learning disability for a storyline, while voting for and funding polticians who are eroding public eduction and making post-secondary education further out of grasp for many.
Stephanie's husband shares her views and has donated to the same politicians with some additional donations, including one for Trump's campaign this past October. He is also much more vocal about his views on his Twitter account where he frequently likes and retweets white supremacists, Qanon conspiracy theorists, Fox News pundits and the like. His most recent tweet expresses his disappointment that Amazon and Google have banned Parler.
