-The Black Eyed Peas released their first album in 1998. The album consisted of a conscious hip hop sound and was a critical success. After a second album in 2000, They added Stacy "fergie" Ferguson(Who had left her own struggling group"Wild Orchid)to their line up and from 2003-2009 They sold 80 million albums worldwide.

-Shakira released 2 hit Spanish language albums in 1995 and 1998 selling 7 million albums, including 1.5 million in the U.S. After her 1999 MTV Unplugged special, Shakira went on to release a more pop friendly sound for her English language debut.

-At 16 P!nk joined the girl group Choice and recorded an album that was not released except for one single,"Key to my heart", which appeared on the "Kazaam" movie soundtrack.P!nk was told to go solo and released her pop R&B album "Can't take me home" which produced 3 hit singles and sold 2 million albums. P!nk went on to a more rock /pop sound in 2002.
-Katy Perry released a contemporary Christian album in 2001 called Katy Hudson.The album was unsuccessful and the record company shut down. In 2004 Perry signed with Glen Ballard record company Java and began work on a new album,but that album was shelved when Java shut down.Hudson was signed to Columbia and spent two years on a new album when she was dropped by Columbia in 2006.Hudson's demos were bought to the chairman of Virgin records and she was signed to Capitol records in 2007.
