Dish: Red Velvet Cake
Album: Stevie Wonder's Signed, Sealed, and Delivered
A sweet dish for a sweet Beatles cover. Wonder was only 19 when he recorded this song and co-wrote this album. OP was still just eating shredded cheese out the bag watching Law & Order SVU.
Dish: Pecan Pie
Album: Etta James's Tell Mama
Dish: Old School Soul Lemon Meringue Pie
Album: Curtis Mayfield's self-titled debut
Dish: Golden brown dinner rolls
Album: Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul
Yes his bald head is the dinner inspiration, but this song. This intro of all the intros, like this Scientologist really put his whole foot in this whole ass song.
Dish: fried okra or seasoned green beans
Album: Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes's Wake Up Everybody
Many people are familiar with Thelma Houston's cover, but the original with Teddy's transcendent vocals - it just hit different.
Dish: Peach cobbler (OP has a huge sweet tooth)
Album: Sister Sledge's We Are Family
Most of us won't be able to travel, so virtual family reunions may be the hit, after you teach ya aunties how to use, you can dance and smile to this classic.
Dish: Butter pecan ice cream.
Album: Gladys Knight and the Pips's Imagination
A song, one of many that highlights the resiliency of our people. We keep on keepin' on because that's what we do.
Food and dessert gobbled, just relax with the fam. Work off some of those calories with a little steppers set. I don't really have a dish for this one but I figured the classic was a fitting one for this year as a send off. Also it's important to note the beautiful vocal contribution from Sharon Paige the blues singer who passed earlier this year.
