Ariana Grande's Positions is number 1 on the Billboard 200 this week. Of its 174,000 total units, 129,000 were streaming equivalent album units, 42,000 were sales, and 3,000 were track equivalent album units. This represents a decline from her last release, Thank U, Next, which also debuted at number 1 last year with 360,000 equivalent album units.
Sam Smith's Love Goes debuted at number 5 this week, with 41,000 units (18,000 of which were album sales). This is a significant decline from their last release, The Thrill of It All, which debuted at number 1 with 237,000 units (including 185,000 album sales).
Looks like election week releases aren't the best idea.
