Coke is discontinuing Tab, its first ever diet drink after 57 years


- On Friday Coke announced it will be retiring its first ever diet drink after 57 years

- The drink was first marketed toward women when it hit the market in 1963

- Due to "the exercise and dieting craze hit the mainstream" it was a big hit in the 70s and 80s "and it maintained a cult following for decades. An energy drink under the Tab logo was launched in 2006."

- Kerri Kopp, the group director for Diet Coke at Coca-Cola North America, said in a news release: “We’re forever grateful to Tab for paving the way for the diets and lights category, and to the legion of Tab lovers who have embraced the brand for nearly six decades. If not for Tab, we wouldn’t have Diet Coke or Coke Zero Sugar. Tab did its job.”

- Other drinks Coke is discontinuing: Coca-Cola Life, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Odwalla (announced in July), Zico Coconut Water, Kuat (Brazil) and Vegitabeta (Japan).




Did anyone in your family drink Tab? I was told it was my grandmother's favorite drink in the 80s

I've never tried Tab and I haven't seen one in stores in YEARS. I thought it was already discontinued. I'm gonna miss Diet Cherry Coke so much, it was the only diet soda I liked. But I guess it's good I won't be able to find it anymore because I wanted to quit drinking diet sodas entirely.

I photographed ZZ Top in the early 2000s and they didn’t know I was waiting and exited their dressing rooms in their boxers to pick up some Tab. Next to their backstage area was many cases of tab just sitting. I was surprised to see it.

Ps they were very nice and friendly guys, as were their families and spouses. I did not try a Tab. But it’s also the favorite drink of Navin R Johnson

I like coca-cola but i rarely drink it now, but i dont how people can stand Dr Pepper.

There were a couple years where I was addicted to Dr Pepper but then I switched to coke and now Dr Pepper tastes way too sweet and like syrup to me

Never had a Tab, but I can’t deal with any diet/light sodas anyway. The after taste of whatever sweetener they use always makes me feel slightly sick

I remember buying a Tab in like 2005 because Nicole Richie or one of the Olsens endorsed it or something and even in my teenage mind I knew it was weird to buy something just because a celebrity liked it haha

Huh, I feel like I’ve actually seen Tab recently and was pretty perplexed.

The only pop I’ve ever really been committed to is Tahiti Treat and i was like 7. I never buy pop just to drink it around the house. We keep ginger ale, coke, and tonic in the house for mix though.

I saw tab in my local store a few weeks ago and was surprised that it was still being made. But who knows, it could have been on the shelf for years.

i feel like i’ve never seen tab before in my life which surprises me lmao. love me some diet coke ngl, but i don’t let myself have it too often
