Eva Mendes Shows Off Daughter's Artwork, Gives Rare Interview to Aussie Paper

Eva Mendes recently showed off her four year old daughter Amada's artwork on Instagram. The girl captured her mother's mood, with Eva capping it off with a quote from the classic Anchorman.

In other news, Eva granted a rare interview as the 2020 McHappy Day ambassador for Australia's Ronald McDonald House Charities. She was unusually candid, discussing her family's experience with Ronald McDonald House, racism, longtime partner Ryan Gosling, their daughters and her late brother.

  • Despite the media saying Eva and Ryan Gosling met on the set of 2011's The Place Beyond the Pines, she corrects and confirms they've been friends since the early 2000s (the couple has been together nearly a decade).

  • She jokes spending quarantine with a six and four year old is like "some kind of bed-and-breakfast with very drunk and aggressive guests," she says she and Ryan aren't self-pitying because "we remind ourselves that these are the good times, because we’re all together and we’re all safe right now."

  • Although she's been on a long hiatus from acting to raise her children, she is feeling the desire to go back into performing now that her kids are older.

  • When her mother's best friend's daughter came about a family hardship, Eva ran to help. Her honorary cousin's 18-month-old son was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. The family declined the Mendes/Gosling's family's assistance, saying the RMHC was a great provider of help and support during the trying times.

  • Andrew is now in remission, and he and his little brother Anthony recently visited the Mendes/Gosling home (pre-covid).

  • When her 53-year-old brother passed away, Eva was pregnant with Amada. He didn't want to talk about his diagnosis, so she distracted him with daughter Esmeralda and her pregnant belly. She gave birth to Amada twelve days after her brother passed away.

  • Her voice cracks with emotion when talking about Ryan's Golden Globe speech, which he dedicated to her brother. She says, "[I] couldn’t even be there that night...I was in the other room when my sister started screaming for me to come in and she was crying, so we rewound and watched and it was such a beautiful, surreal moment, especially for my family to hear Ryan say my brother’s name."

  • She remembers a childhood friend thinking her family was fighting, when they were just having dinner. She was the baby of a loud Cuban family, recalling Cuban food, music, loud singing and yelling around the house all the time growing up.

  • Eva remembers the casual racism she encountered early in her career as a model. After a year of not booking any jobs in commercials, her casting agent told her "Honey, it’s just your look. You’re too ethnic, so you’re never going to be the face of any American product."

  • Instead of letting that remark deter Eva, she fought harder for jobs and representation. She later represented Calvin Klein, Cartier, Revlon, Pantene and Thierry Mugler. She is also regularly considered one of the world's most beautiful Latin women.

  • Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Eva is unable to be a RMHC ambassador in person and instead will meet families at RMHC virtually in November.
