Britney was a major target at a time when puritanical attitudes were mainstream. Because Britney challenged these attitudes, stars that came after her could dress seductively and own their sexuality without being questioned. Britney deserves more credit for this.
To share my own interpretation; this video isn't necessarily trying to drag people for what they've said in the past. It's more to shed light over the shit Britney (who possesses a very live and let live mentality) had to endure by a bunch of nobodies and even her peers. I have summed up the parts of the video for those who aren't able to watch it with audio at the moment.
00:26 The View with Britney and Lynn Spears
Interviewer: You as a mom have been criticized too, like, 'why do you let her go out looking like that!'
Lynn Spears: What people don't understand is that Britney doesn't 'go out' looking like that. When she goes to some party, if it's the Grammy Awards, whatever, that's where you dress up.
Britney: Being a girl! Playing dress up...
Lynn: That is a costume, that's glamour. And, you know, she doesn't reveal anything. I think it's kind of an unfair criticism.
01:23 Eminem on VH1
An absolutely rich rant coming from this out-of-touch cock knocker. Not even worth the effort of fully quoting. To sum it up: he has a daughter, think of the children (something he never considered while being an abusive piece of shit, I guess). He did say at the end, "whatever [Britney] wants to do, she wants to do. That's her business." You couldn't have started and ended with that? lmao dumb prick.
02:00 Mariah Carey on Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie: [Displaying a photo of Mariah at the 2000 American Music Awards] Hello, trampy dress! Hello!
Mariah: I 👏 have 👏 something 👏 to 👏 say 👏. For the first five or six or seven years of my career they made me wear tops up to here [pointing at the bottom of her chin] and [points to her toes]. If I wanna show my body in a dress, I'ma show it.
Rosie: I would like you to talk to the young kids and tell them, 'Britney Spears should be grounded for wearing that.' You're an adult woman, you're a grown-up! Britney Spears is 18!
Mariah, who shrugged while petting her dog: She's a nice girl.
Rosie: She's very nice, but the trampy outfits have to go.
A bunch of rambling. Britney responds to the nonsense by saying people try to dress her in less scandalous outfits, but dressing the way she does is her choice and what she wants to do.
03:48 Muchmusic Fromage 2001
This is just stupid lol a clip of cheap misogynist comedy.
04:13 Good Morning America
A narration saying Britney is often described as 'Lolita on aerobics'.
Britney: Everybody's gonna have an opinion, you can't please everybody. But, I mean, as long as you're comfortable, I say wear what you wanna wear, you know what I mean? It's all in how you care for yourself and how you live. That's what it boils down to.
04:43 Crossroads Premiere Cannes (infamous virginity question)
Interviewer, feeling it's any of her business: I'm just wondering about how you feel about the constant speculation about your virginity and where you are in the virginal front?
Britney: I really wish I never would have said anything to begin with because I'm kind of stuck in this little place where people are always asking me. But that's just something that's a part of growing up and that's just something that we all have to deal with.
Interviewer: Have there been any changes on that front?
Britney: That's a personal question.
05:12 Avril Lavigne on TRL
Avril once said she is different from Britney and the press took her words and ran with it, claiming Avril referred to Britney as a 'ho' several times, which she denies here.
Avril: She's doing her thing and I'm doing my thing and that's all I have to say.
05:55 Diane Sawyer's Famous Primetime Interview
Diane Sawyer really shines in this clip. This entire interview was basically her ripping Britney. She tried this shit with Christina too WAY before she went dirrty (literally during her Genie days), but Legend X shut it down fairly quickly.
Dumb American asshole said this about Britney IN A SPEECH AT AN ANTI-DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CONFERENCE: "...really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would." The context was that she believed domestic violence could be prevented if there were better role models.
[FULL QUOTE, for those curious]"It is incredibly important to get that message to young women. You know, really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would. I hate to say that, but you know, like I said, I'm raising a boy... and I think, 'Oh my goodness, what would I do if I had a daughter who is seeing these images and having peer pressure?'"
Diane thought it was a lovely idea to give it the attention it craved and showed it to Britney, who was clearly hurt by it. Exactly what Diane wanted for the cameras ofc and thought she should justify it for good measure.
Britney: I mean, I can't help that and if the parents don't like [their kids] to see it, then change the channel.
Diane: It's another thing not to know that a lot of young girls are looking at this.
Britney: ...But am I responsible for them?
08:03 CNN with Tucker Carlson
Trump stan Tucker Carlson, speaking with Anderson Cooper after his interview with Britney: She seemed very young. She seemed younger than a person who would bear her midriff. The impression that I came away with was that it would be wrong to have adult thoughts about Britney Spears. I mean, she may be 21, but she seems, again, young. But in a nice way!
09:08 Muchmusic Fromage 2004
Nothing's changed since the 2001 clip.
Are you a ho?
