Alfonso Herrera will be starring in upcoming Mexican movie, el baile de los 41, narrating the historical events surrounding the infamous dance of the same name.
The dance of the 41 is a very famous dance that took place in a very concealed way among elite, gay men of the Porfiriato (the time were Porfirio Díaz was president of Mexico in the 1900’s) in Mexico City, since homosexuality was highly persecuted and shunned by society.
After a police raid in the middle of the event, 42 men were apprehended for being inebriated, practicing gay conducts and some of them cross dressing, the list with their names was informed to the president, but president Díaz famously stated that he only read 41 names on it, since one of the incarcerated men was his son in law, Ignacio de la Torre y Mier, husband of his daughter amada Díaz.
Since then, the dance became part of the Mexican collective consciousness and the number 41 itself has become an euphemism for gayness and part of gay culture.
To be released on November 19.
