I was curious about BTS after Dynamite charted, and subsequently I ended up down a YouTube rabbit hole and then bought their albums. And now I have returned from my BTS journey to inform you of their 10 best songs. And no, Dynamite is not among them. I kept this to group songs (apologies to Jin and "Moon") and this is purely my opinion (which is flawless so I will not be accepting criticism about my taste).
I did my best to find videos that have English captions available so I highly suggest turning them on to get a better understanding of the songs.
A controversial pick to start off this countdown! But I don't caaaaaare. This song is really cute and fun. It's about being afraid of not living up to expectations, but doing their best even though they're not perfect. Also this video doesn't have English captions because I couldn't find a good quality recording of a performance with English captions. But you can look at an English translation here
This song is a banger and that's basically the entire reason it's on this list. Sorry not sorry! It's about carpe diem and living your life how you want. But I'm basically just here for how hard it goes.
8. Spring Day
It's not revolutionary in theme. It's about the ending of a relationship. But it IS a beautiful song and the visuals of the music video are great too. So not the most unique song from them, but I love it!
I aaaalmost put Dionysus in here instead, but in the end the message of Idol of loving yourself and not caring about labels or what others think about you won out over the Dionysus message of getting lit. lmao.
6. Fake Love
I LOVE this video. It's so gorgeous with some stunning visuals. And the song itself is really good! It's about changing yourself to make someone love you and hiding your real feelings to please someone, but a real relationship can't be built on that.
Not the most unique theme for a song. It's about cosmic, destined love. Two people meant to be from the start of the universe. BUT I really love the vibe of the song. Somehow a bit chill, but also upbeat? IDK. I like it. So there.
4. MIC Drop
Sure, this is a somewhat standard "fuck the haters, look at all our success" song, but I love it so much? I can't justify it. I think it's the "Did you see my bag? It's hella trophies and it's hella thick" line. Don't judge me.
3. Boy W/ Luv (feat. Halsey)
IT'S JUST REALLY CUTE AND SWEET, OK? It's wish fulfillment for every ARMY who wants to imagine V or Jungkook or Jim etc etc being in love with them and devoted to them. But it's also just super fun and adorable. LET ME LIVE.
2. Blood, Sweat & Tears
Probably the ~sexiest~ song from their entire discography. Like some potential allusions to BDSM and cunnilingus? Maybe? WHATEVER. I'M HERE FOR IT. It's about a lover who treats them badly, but they want more anyway.
1. Black Swan
This is a beautiful song full of raw emotion. It's about feeling burnt out as an artist and the struggle of being true to yourself in your art and rediscovering your passion for it again.
Honorable Mention: Go Go
This is not actually one of their best songs, but lmao it's my soundtrack when I want to engage in some ill-advised impulsive online shopping. And this performance is cute af, so I'm including this as an honorable mention.
