Sarah Snook to star in 'Persuasion' Film Adaptation

Sarah Snook of Succession is set to star (/alliteration) in an adaptation of Jane Austen's final novel Persuasion. Jessica Swale (Summerland) will write the adaptation, with Mahalia Belo set to direct for Searchlight.

The novel follows Anne Elliot who, many years after refusing the proposal of a young naval officer, finds herself rethinking her decisions when he returns from war a wealthy and decorated Captain. Snook is set to play Elliot, with no casting yet announced for the other lead.

Snook next appears in the Vanessa Kirby starrer Pieces of a Woman.

Recently read this one and I rly enjoyed it.

This remains one of the most scathing burns I've ever laid eyes upon:

[...] that the Musgroves had had the ill fortune of a very troublesome, hopeless son; and the good fortune to lose him before he reached his twentieth year; that he had been sent to sea, because he was stupid and unmanageable on shore; that he had been very little cared for at any time by his family, though quite as much as he deserved; seldom heard of, and scarcely at all regretted... He had, in fact, though his sisters were now doing all they could for him, by calling him 'poor Richard,' been nothing better than a thick-headed, unfeeling, unprofitable Dick Musgrove, who had never done anything to entitle himself to more than the abbreviation of his name, living or dead.

goddamit Jane, he's already dead
Jane came up with the most elegant burns
she is such a bitch, i love her
I've been wanting a big screen adaptation of Persuasion since forever so I'm very excited, but help me lord if they cast some actor that I fucking hate for Wentworth. They better not fuck it up !!!
Right!? I need something to look forward to so they better not mess this up
somehow the role will simultaneously be played by Armie Hammer and Max Irons
Max Irons is such a random one to hate! I get Armie tho

"Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you." 😭😭😭

One hundred percent ready to watch this and cry my damn eyes out.
"I am half agony, half hope."
Persuasion is one of my favorite books. I've been begging the film/tv gods to make a good screen adaptation (I did not like the 1995 or 2007 ones).

Please let me live to see this and let it be good, haha
Yees! My favourite Austen book.
Also shout out to your icon, Margaret Hale remains flawless!
I re-read Persuasion at least once a year and literally just finished it again last week, and also rewatched the 1995 version and was thinking of how it was time for it to get another adaptation, so this is welcome and timely news! I do really enjoy the 1995 and 2007 ones, but both of them left a lot of room for improvement (especially the ending of the 2007 one and as much as I like Sally Hawkins, she was not the best Anne Elliot).

I hope this is great and can be the definitive version of this story. They better not mess up the Wentworth casting!
I've been meaning to read Persuasion. I tried as a teenager and I guess I was too much of a Bronte girl to get through it, but this post has given me the motivation
I think being older helps you appreciate it more tbh.
I'm not sure a teenager can really love the book, you need the experience of life and regrets to really appreciate it IMO

I've had my heart set on a Dev Patel Wentworth for a couple weeks...
I don't know if my heart would cope if Dev was Wentworth!
he would be a perfect Wentworth omg

i would die of happiness if he's cast as wentworth
Ooooo yes Persuasion is fantastic and doesn't get nearly as much shine as P&P or Emma. + yay for the Succession cast booking other good jobs!
Nice! I've loved her since Predestination and I'm SO glad she's finally getting attention. And I adored Summerland, that director def makes sense for an Austen.
she's a great choice! i want her in more things
Also, I look forward to seeing who they cast as her terrible, silly family
Ohhh this is exciting
I hope they give her eyebrows (she's very beautiful either way tho)

Very exciting news, I didn't know Persuasion was being adapted into a new movie :0 Make it good please
