Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) defends JK Rowling

Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, best known for playing Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, defended Harry Potter author JK Rowling's past remarks on trans issues shortly after the author began receiving new transphobia accusations regarding her upcoming book.

Speaking with Radio Times, he said, "I don't think what she said was offensive really. I don't know why but there's a whole Twitter generation of people who hang around waiting to be offended. They wouldn't have won the war, would they? That's me talking like a grumpy old man, but you just think, 'Oh, get over yourself. Wise up, stand up straight and carry on.'"

Fellow Harry Potter franchise actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Katie Leung, Bonnie Wright, Evanna Lynch, Noma Dumezweni, Chris Rankin, and Eddie Redmayne previously defended the trans community in the wake of JK Rowling's comments made in June of 2020.

Coltrane, who did not have the foresight not to comment, continued, "I don't want to get involved in all of that because of all the hate mail and all that s**t, which I don’t need at my time of life."

Won the war? Shut your dumb ass up.
That motherfucker was born in 1950.
The only thing his generation won was the British Invasion of pop music.
LMAAAAOO Drag him!!
The way white British men all jerk themselves off thinking about what they would've done during WWII while participating in fascist thinking is truly breathtaking.

I hate that fucking scene. Like anyone outside of Harry and Co. give a shit he’s back. Most of those kids probably didn’t even know he was gone.

I never liked Hagrid, lol.
Neither did I, he's the character I hated the most aside from Ginny. Tell me again why I'm supposed to be endeared to this bumbling fuck-up who constantly endangers children's lives???
I mean, as far as the rest of the school is concerned, their janitor was arrested on suspicion of mass murder. Like at best they're going to go, "Oh well. Good thing he's innocent I guess."
Lol I appreciated him in the first book, but I feel like he was often knighted to be this great force in Harry's life and...he wasn't?? He got Harry into more trouble than he did being some sort of surrogate uncle to him

Same lmao I never liked Hagrid
Neither. And while I get that neglected, orphaned little Harry would hang onto anyone that showed him the slightest bit of care and concern, the fact that he and his two friends would regularly go visit the school’s groundskeeper was weird. But then again, this was Harry and he regularly visited with Dumbledore and had private lessons with Lupin and Snape and the rules and conventions and societal norms just don’t apply to him, okay, I get it.
i’m ngl ever since i learned robin williams wanted the role it’s really irked me how ungrateful robbie has been about it. it was wanted by one of the biggest comedic stars in hollywood, an a-lister even and he’s just so 🤷‍♂️ it’s never been enough for him

Yer a dumbass, Hagrid.
Shut up. Hagrid was the worst part of the books and movies.
I didn't mind him until that mess with his brother? His character got Flanderized. Way too dumb to live.
Would've traded him for any other character that died.

If he's white, British and over 50, it's always about WWII.
At least there's self insight.

Shit my bad. He's Scottish! Anyway, my point still stands re: boomers and their obsession with WWII.
I love how they spent years and years talking about the good old British Blitz spirit and then refused to wear a fucking mask when the time came.

"Hey, I wanted to sweep up bomb dust and the limbs of my neighbors -- not breathe through paper for half an hour"
Super proud of 10yr old me for never buying into any of her SHIT tbh.
I don't want to get involved in all of that because of all the hate mail and all that s**t, which I don’t need at my time of life

Then why got involved in it??

Fucking idiot, I guess there wasn't much acting involved in playing Hagrid.
no there was, he had to act like a nice, jolly person and he’s definitely not one
nobody asked you hagrid now go back to your cave
Damn you gotta die on ha hill? Like really? Wack
"They wouldn't have won the war." Oh, he's one of those.
