Madonna will co-write and direct her own biopic

In what seems to be an unprecedented creative move, the pop icon has stepped up to write and direct a film about her life and career, co-written by Diablo Cody and set up at Universal Pictures.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement. “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Madonna has previously directed two features, the 2008 drama “Filth and Wisdom,” and the 2011 film “W.E.” for which she one a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

A film about her could certainly be interesting. However, she has to know she has no talent when it comes to filmmaking (not that that stops many others), so I don't know why she'd want to fuck the film up from the start. A well-made film like this could probably get people interested in her again, and there's no way it's going to be well-made if she's involved.

Why she insists on messing with films time and time again, we'll never know. Life is a mystery.
when you are as rich as Madonna you can be as bad as you want at shit and people will still let you do it

eat the rich
I totally get her being a co-writer, it's her story, no one knows it better. I thought the project had some potential, she's had a great life, etc. But it definitely needed a strong director to make it work. It's too bad.

Also has anyone seen the videos Madonna has posted from the writing sessions? Poor Diablo, she looks like she's about to scream at any second.
I liked someones idea on twitter of getting 3-4 female directors to take on different parts of her career/timeline.

Welp.
A different one for each decade would be interesting depicting each era from a different perspective

Of course she is! Ha! When the first post was made a few days ago I was going to joke that she was most likely going to direct it herself, and well, here we are. If I’m being optimistic, she has worked with great directors and does seem to have somewhat of an unrefined but interesting visual eye too so maybe the cinematography and look will at least be good. The bits I have seen of W.E. were lovely visually, but boring otherwise.
uhm not sure what to expect from the artist directing her own bio movie, but I'm curious
Excited <3
but she's a terrible director
Biopics with the subject attached are always trash and gloss over or completely omit anything negative
No Oscar for M!
Biopics that the subject is heavily involved in never work. They sanitise themselves too much.
i'll watch it
I was a huge fan growing up
