'Big Brother' Contestants Mock Autistic Houseguest Ian Terry https://t.co/BZGofA3AJI— TMZ (@TMZ) September 10, 2020
For those of you who haven't been following the 22nd season of Big Brother, there have been quite a few dust-ups recently, from Christmas Abbott's racist nomination of both Bayleigh Dayton & Da'Vonne Rogers as well as her racist rants about said nomination (which culminated in a fight in which Christmas lost her temper and looked like a total asshole), Tyler Crispen allegedly using the Black Lives Matter movement to "look good on TV,", to the current scandal that curiously made TMZ headlines over the others: contestants openly mocking and belittling their fellow houseguest, Ian Terry.
Terry won the 14th season of the show after going up against Dan Gheesling in a final two. Throughout S22, the second American All-Stars cast, Terry has been forthcoming with the house about his autism diagnosis. He has explained to his fellow houseguests that he was regularly mocked online before and after his appearance on S14, and went into the many ways in which this understandably caused him emotional distress.
And yet....here we are.
Despite supposed "sensitivity training" for houseguests this season and multiple warnings from producers, Christmas Abbott, Dani Briones, Nicole Franzel and Memphis Garrett are currently under fire for making fun of Ian on the live-feeds, accusing him of "using his disability" to get ahead in the game and laughing at him and his mannerisms.
Perhaps the worst part was when Memphis Garrett attributed Ian to the character of Danny in The Shining, claiming he'd been having nightmares of Ian standing over his bed saying "REDRUM." All of this atrocious and frankly triggering behavior has prompted many fans to boycott the season and the show as a whole. Other fans gave up years ago.
