According to ABC News, via Page Six, Prince Harry and Meghan are now officially "financially independent" from Harry's father, Prince Charles.
They released an official statement Monday, where they announced that they repaid the reported $2.9 million taxpayer-footed cost of renovating their first royal digs, Frogmore Cottage:
“A contribution has been made to the Sovereign Grant by The Duke of Sussex. This contribution as originally offered by Prince Harry has fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, a property of Her Majesty The Queen, and will remain the UK residence of The Duke and his family.”
In July, Harry, 35, and Meghan, 39, moved with their son, Archie, to a new home in Santa Barbara, California.
They have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives
