E3 Faces Backlash Over Retweet About Women And Video Games

Earlier today, E3 thought it would be a great idea to retweet a particular article on their Twitter account from pop culture site 'Parade' writing about what games women like the best. In the article, Parade (who do not specialize in video game news coverage) stated how they "surveyed game developers, pro gamers and everyday players" to recommend free online games that women (apparently) enjoy and the types of games women "gravitate towards". Some of the games that were listed were: Soduko, Candy Crush Saga, Harry Potter Wizards Unite, Sims 4, Animal Crossing New Horizon, Solitaire, Harvest Moon: Seed of Memories, House Flipper and Kim Kardashian: Hollywood Adventure. Many people on Twitter noticed a certain pattern from all the video games that were listed and accused E3 and Parade of perpetuating gendered and sexist stereotypes of women and women gamers.

Soon after the article was getting traction on Twitter, Parade deleted the article from their website. E3 also deleted the retweet on their Twitter account and released a statement regarding the article:

With the power of the internet however, someone webcached the whole Parade article and you can read it here if you want
