Emmy Nominations 2020: Biggest Snubs and Surprises

The covid-19 pandemic changed the awards calendar and the voting members had less than 2 weeks to watch all the materials from the nominees and make their selections, so there were some surprises and snubs among the nominees:

SURPRISE: “The Mandalorian”

It was a Surprise that the Disney+ show landed a nomination for best drama series, because it was expected to be nominated on several categories in the Creative Arts Emmys but not on the Primetime Awards, the show beat some favorites and much longer runner series for a spot.

SNUB: Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn, “Better Call Saul”

Rhea Seehorn has never been nominated at the Emmys but everyone expected she would get her first nomination for the 5th season of Better Call Saul. Her acting was praised by critics and viewers alike so it came as a surprise she didn't got a nom for best supporting actress.

Bob Odenkirk's lack of nomination came as a surprise as well considering he has been nominated for all the 4 seasons of the show and his performance was praised too.

SURPRISE: Zendaya, “Euphoria”

Playing the drug-addicted Rue showed off the former Disney star’s range like no other role could, and she was rewarded, securing nomination as best drama actress, even over previous Emmy winners such as Nicole Kidman and Elisabeth Moss.

SNUB: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon had 3 opportunities to be nominated, in lead drama actress for "Big Little Lies" and "The Morning Show " and as in lead limited series/TV movie actress for "Little Fires Everywhere" , but she wasn't nominated for any of those roles.

SURPRISE: “What We Do in the Shadows”
The FX vampire comedy broke into the comedy series race for the first time with its second season. Even though it's loved by the audience and critics, it seemed like a longer shot considering the stacked race of returning nominees still eligible.
