21 years ago, a movie with a limited budget and theatrical release went on to become a cornerstone for the horror genre and a pioneer on the found footage sub genre and viral marketing.
Released on 1999, it is based on the purportedly true story of three student filmmakers who hike in the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland in 1994 to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. The three disappeared, but their equipment and footage is discovered a year later.
