Laura Bailey who plays a character in the recent 'Last of Us Part II' has been getting death threats on social media as well as threats to kill her kids. This is in part because the character is very controversial for spoilerific reasons (google it if you want to know why).
Many have noted that she is the latest in a long line of actresses to receive abuse online because of the characters they play.
Others involved with the game/franchise have offered their support. (This is all just happening so I will try to update if more respond.)
Man. I try to only post positive stuff on here... but sometimes this just gets a little overwhelming. I blacked out some of the words cuz, ya know, spoilers.— Laura Bailey (@LauraBaileyVO) July 3, 2020
Side note. Thank you to all the people sending me positive messages to balance it out. It means more than I can say.❤️ pic.twitter.com/kGyULWPpNu
Jeffrey Pierce who plays Tommy wrote:
Craig Mazin who is the showrunner for the HBO adaptation:
There is a lot I'd like to say. @LauraBaileyVO you're extraordinary in every way. Please share the identities of this pissants, laugh at them, report them to the FBI and block them. If any of these little limp dicks want to come visit me, by all means. Come and get some. https://t.co/9Kjyvf7naI— Jeffrey Pierce (@pierce_jeffrey) July 3, 2020
Neil Druckmann, the game's director/writer:
THEY are few, and when they write those things, they feel very little.— Craig Mazin (@clmazin) July 3, 2020
WE are many, and when we write these things, we feel a LOT.
Your work was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I couldn't have loved your performance more. You are GOOD, Bailey. You are good.
As the people that propagate this kind of hate would say, how stunning and brave! I hope these gamers get the mental help they so clearly need. Unfortunately this is now the cost of making popular entertainment that challenges conventions. Laura doesn’t deserve any of this. ❤️ https://t.co/kHzXddZzIB— Neil Druckmann (@Neil_Druckmann) July 3, 2020
