POS YouTuber Shane Dawson has uploaded a 20-minute apology video (ain’t nobody got time for that). He says Jenna Marbles inspired him to film it, of course. Rme. In it he’s “taking accountability” for his past content that many viewers have found offensive, such as blackface and caricatures parodying PoC, his disturbing pedophilia and misogyny.
“I was at least 20 when I started YouTube,” Dawson, 31, explained. “I made the decision to play stereotypes of Black people or Asian people or Mexicans... I said, ‘Oh, this is funny,’ and I put it on the internet.”
“When I say I hate that person, I mean it in the most intense way possible,” he continued. (OP Note: Yawn) “That person was filled with sadness, filled with anger about their own issues, in the closet, constantly projecting on others. ...that person is someone I don’t like seeing.”
Dawson also added he made this video to become “part of a change and not part of a problem,” and went on to claim he would better educate himself and feature more people on his channel other than “white people in trouble.”
“At this point realizing how many people I’ve hurt, or how many people I’ve inspired to say awful things or do anything awful, to finally just own up to all of this and be accountable is worth losing everything to me,” he said.
Unfortunately he isn’t quitting YouTube. But he should.
