Ian Holm, star of Lord of the Rings, Alien and Chariots of Fire, dies aged 88

Famous for his roles in Lord of the Rings and in the RSC, Ian Holm has passed away at the age of 88. His agent has confirmed his death to the Guardian.

He died of an illness related to Parkinson's Disease, and had a peaceful passing in hospital surrounded by his family and carer.

He was unable to attend the virtual LOTR reunion a few weeks ago because of his illness, and sent his regrets by saying “I am sorry to not see you in person, I miss you all and hope your adventures have taken you to many places, I am in lockdown in my hobbit home, or holm.”

RIP to the BEST Bilbo.
