Kristen Bell accused of glorifying 'colourblindness' in new children's book https://t.co/R9eAInh274— The Independent (@Independent) June 12, 2020
I regret to inform you all that Kristen Bell is at it again.
The Veronica Mars star has written a children's book, The World Needs More Purple People, about a purple person who looks for similarities before differences. She explained to the Associated Press:
"The world loves debate, I do, and debate talks about differences. It’s layering difference upon difference upon difference, ‘I think this’, ‘no, you should think this’, it’s just constantly pointing out divisive narratives. Our kids are absorbing all of that and maybe we needed a bit of a road map to show them that it’s actually great to start with similarities first.”
She continued: “Hopefully that will allow kids to have a little bit more of a social identity and be able to see similarities and through that have their mind opened by some people who they thought were different.”
Kristen was promptly criticized on social media for writing "All Lives Matter: The Book," with people side eying the similarity to the phrase "I don’t care if you’re black, white, purple" (which is usually used to shut down conversations about racism).
This mess has come after Kristen participated in a tone deaf "I Take Responsibility" PSA. Kristen's reps have not responded to requests for comment.
I KNOW I didn’t see Kristen Bell in the “I Take Responsibility” video when shes literally voicing a POC on tv. Go back to Arendelle please. pic.twitter.com/9gOha77arJ— Yonklerr (@Yonklerr) June 11, 2020
Was looking forward to AppleTV's #CentralPark but a biracial teen with afro puffs voiced by... Kristen Bell? Like there's not enough racist shit happening in Central Park already. pic.twitter.com/eXL5uNMckT— paultoes (@paultoesjohn) May 29, 2020
Kristen Bell will be profiting off of “”racism education”” when her net worth is already $20 million dollars. The fact that she somehow managed to center herself in this narrative and didn’t stop to think about her own complicity is exactly why people are fed up. https://t.co/nydQV3psAL— IRL golden milk latte (@ashnitweets) June 12, 2020
Are Kristen Bell and Dax Sheppard, like, deliberately trolling us with some of what they do. https://t.co/zeTrhhKtgr— Grace Robertson (@GemOfAmara) June 12, 2020
hi @KristenBell! a great start to show that you're actually committed to anti-racism would be to acknowledge why it's harmful for you to voice a Black character on Central Park. by taking that role you're literally taking up space that should be occupied by a Black woman!— Abolish the Police (@Badgertastic1) June 12, 2020
also @KristenBell, instead of writing your own children's book about racism, you could have uplifted and supported the countless children's books about racism written by Black people!— Abolish the Police (@Badgertastic1) June 12, 2020
Kristen Bell making a video about taking responsibility for racism whilst simultaneously not taking responsibility for playing the part of a biracial woman is peak white privilege and peak 2020.— CB_Tells (@cb_tells) June 11, 2020
