- Follow up to this post where New Orleans Saints quarterback stated that "[he] will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America". He also stated that his white grandfathers fought WW2 to make the USA a great country for him to live in.
- Today, after being dragged on social media and in the press/on TV, he released an apology on Instagram: "In an attempt to talk about respect, unity, and solidarity centered around the American flag and the national anthem, I made comments that were insensitive and completely missed the mark on the issues we are facing right now as a country. They lacked awareness and any type of compassion or empathy. Instead, those words have become divisive and hurtful and have misled people into believing that somehow I am an enemy."
- Of course, social media users are not having it since he's being dragged in the comments of his post and outside with the hashtag #DrewBreesIsCancelled
- On the other hand, some of his Black teammates approved his apology.
Top two people recognizing (and seemingly approving) Drew Brees’ apology: Demario Davis and Craig Robertson, both leaders inside the Saints locker room. pic.twitter.com/uDL1gWNsAw— Larry Holder (@LarryHolder) June 4, 2020
Drew Brees has worked in a league of predominantly black men (labor wise that is) for almost 20 years. And he's harbored anti-black racism that entire time. His timing was no accident.— ProfessorBlackTruth (@ProfBlacktruth) June 4, 2020
Of course his "apology" is NOT accepted. Hit the bricks. No HOF for you!#DrewBreesIsCancelled
Drew Brees’ response was the most white privileged shit I heard all day #DrewBreesIsCancelled— mani (@Brown4Imani) June 4, 2020
Drew Brees doesn’t want to see players kneeling during the national anthem.— My Two Cents (@MyyTwoCentss) June 4, 2020
We as a nation of black people don’t want to see our people dying at the knees, hands, guns of racist police.
Millions of people get it now, but you remain callous & insensitive.#DrewBreesIsCancelled
Nah Drew you have been saying this since Kaepernick started kneeling. You are only apologizing because of the public backlash! Keep your half ass apology and your shitty opinions to yourself! #DrewBreesIsCancelled https://t.co/PPuxPEYlNi— Ariel Guillory (@MsArielg) June 4, 2020
Damn, I can't believe how many Non Black people are showing their asses everyday since the start of the protests, this movement is revealing everyone's true colors
