Lana del Rey announces new album, is not not a feminist, has questions for the culture

https://instagram.com/p/CAcQPuBJdir

In a lengthy note on instagram the singer

  • for some reason brings up Beyonce, Doja, Cardi and Kehlani's songs and asks if they can sing about sexuality, why can't she write about being "embodied by being in love" and abusive relationships without being called retrograde by "female writers and alt singers"

  • claims to be not not a feminist but wants there to be a place in feminism for women who say no but men hear yes, and women who get their voices taken away from them by "stronger women" or "men who hate women"

  • announces a second book of poetry in the works. Proceeds from both books will go to Native American foundations

  • announces a new album September 5th! But does not say which year

  • also posted a photo of Jack Antonoff, but why should I repost. Safe to say he'll have a hand in the new album.

Is cop cum neurotoxic or is she naturally dumb??
o m g
both
I was gonna say lmaooo
wants there to be a place in feminism for women who say no but men hear yes

...wait what. I mean, feminists talk about that concept a lot??? Or does she actually mean "women who say no but MEAN yes"? She's exhausting.
i really think she means like... jessica rabbit from who framed roger rabbit. because no feminist is hot or attractive to men or something. lol
Oh no baby sis wyd? I love you but stop it
did she get some kind of overwhelmingly bad reception to Norman Fucking Rockwell? I thought critics liked it. She's acting like she's not successful when, even if people on twitter are @ing her with this stuff, her music still sells relatively on par with all the other women she called out (for reasons I don't get?)
the critical response to nfr was overwhelmingly positive. she's got creative control, sold out tours, hundreds of millions of streams. she posted this voiceless victim rant on her social media account with more than 16 million followers. she is a clown.
No NFR got really great reviews lol 4/5 stars and sometimes even 5 stars, B-/A ratings. She’s just being ridiculous and whiny. I love her music to bits and it’s always gotten me through sometimes and I considered myself a stan but this is so obnoxious.
I think the initial response when she first started was pretty intense that she just never got over it. When she skyrocketed in popularity just off of internet buzz alone people were obsessed with the idea of proving she was manufactured.

Also SNL flop happened and kinda killed her confidence-she pretty much never did much TV promo again after that. Probably why she never became a mainstream success like with radio smashes and went the opposite direction on ultraviolence
it's always interesting to me that her SNL gig killed her mainstream momentum because BTD is certainly very influential for this Spotify era of pop. every alternative-flavored singer like Halsey is heavily indebted to her sound, lyrics and image.

I'll bite and say that tbf her getting dragged for SNL was over the top and looking back, it was unnecessary.

Tbh though, people will just look at this as "she's dragging all our pop faves" and not "she's a bitter white women who is taking her bitterness on successful WoC"

It received universal acclaim from fans and critics. A 9.4 from pitchfork!!! Got Grammy nominated, tons of best of lists etc. she never recognizes her success
she's probs talking about her early banal shit that critics didn't like/had feminist thinkpieces written on.

She initially did get dragged for being manufactured and fake, and a lot of it was over the top, but her debut did numbers, was on the charts for like 300 weeks (something only 2 other women have ever done in BB's history) and every album since has been more and more critically acclaimed, culminating in her latest album being absolutely showered in effusive praise by every critic around, on top of debuting at #3. To be holding onto negative criticism you received 8 years ago when you've only been vindicated as time has gone on. Also funny to see her talking about feminism and making room for women like her when she singled out a female critic and sicced her stans on her online because she didn't like the positive review she wrote for her latest album. Like damn, is it really that hard to only be almost-universally loved.
she's really been living in her racist self lately huh
this “rant” is racist, tone deaf, nonsensical, and reeks of internalized misogyny. as soon as she started it talking about “the culture” i KNEW it wasn’t gonna end well.

and idk why i’m even surprised at some commenters acting like this is new or somehow out of character for her and how “disappointed” they are. she already showed her true colors when she dated a cop and refused to back down over the israeli concert thing. i suffer from insomnia too but is her boring, sleepy ass music really worth it???
Yeah it's really weird how some people on her gloss over her dating choices. Honestly birds of a feather. I think you are who you surround yourself with mostly. And dating choices say A LOT
yup, she’s rich, famous, and beautiful and could legit probably date almost anyone and yet she WILLINGLY chose a fucking COP??????? that honestly says it all. i’ve been single for five years and would never lmao but i guess i have standards.
mte i am a big believer in "you are the company you keep"
lol you said it. this is what shes always been.

i love her but this thesis made me fucking cringe.
Nothing is worse than a faux deep closeted racist.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm at the people she called out. I assume she doesn't know Ariana is white.

i'm sure a lot of people will have forget by the time she releases another sleepy album though
They’ll forget the moment they leave this post tbh
You KNOW people on here are able to separate white artists from their music, even if said artist is garbage. Which, okay fine, but keep that energy for others who don't look like a scoop of plain yogurt
She can choke
I'll admit it I enjoyed her music when I was an angsty 20-something, but now I just find her tiresome.
there are so many white female singers who have blazed the trail for her kind of music. stevie nicks, carole king, fiona apple, tori amos, courtney love, among others YET she chose to namedrop black women. kehlani doesn't even have a #1 hit, i don't even think her music is gonna be sent to pop radio but she's namedropped.

not disappointed and not surprised by this one.
She's honestly so genuinely, wholeheartedly, and painfully dumb.
ive never been able to get behind lana and this shit is exactly why.
