First a short recap of what happened in the unplanned finale
[Spoiler (click to open)]Meredith was adamant that Richard does not have Alzheimer's and with the help of Deluca, finally found a diagnosis that it was Cobalt poisoning from his hip replacement. Linc had to operate on him while Amelia was in labor. Richard turns out fine after the surgery.
Meanwhile, Bailey supported Amelia while she was in labor despite going through a miscarriage herself a few months ago. Amelia gives birth to a healthy baby boy (name TBD).
Teddy continues to be the worst, she and Tom have sex ON HER WEDDING DAY to Owen, which Owen finds out about when she accidentally send him a voicemail mid coitus. Owen calls off the wedding making an excuse he was pulled into surgery (now you know how it feels to get cheated on , huh Owen?, Cristina must be smiling somehwere in Switzerland).
Deluca has breakdown and Meredith support him.
Now for the interview.
[Spoiler (click to open)]About the season being cut 4 episodes short, showrunner Krista Vernoff says they are considering about what to do with the left over storylines from those episodes, The might also address COVID-19 next season and they do not know if next season will be the last.
She won't address the circumstances about Justin Chambers' abrupt exit, but she did talk about how they wrote Alex off. She says that although she knows many fans have said that they'd prefer if they had killed Alex off instead of getting him back together with Izzie and abandoning Izzie, she suspected that killing him off would be equally negatively received. And between those two options, she preferred to give Alex a happy ending.
