I never understood why Rory liked Jess so much because he was so rude to her mom, someone who meant the most to her in the entire world.

Logan and Rory seem to fit the best imo.
Last time I rewatched, I was struck by how intensely all the adults on the show, especially Lorelai, project their expectations onto Rory. I think Jess being rude to her mom gave Rory space of her own within the relationship, not that she would have thought of it that way. Whereas Dean and Lorelai getting along so well meant Lorelai got to intrude, as always.
You make good points. I just know that, speaking as someone who was also super close to their mom, if I had met a guy who was like THAT toward my mom, I would've stopped speaking to him, lol.
Can you expand on this? I sort of know what you mean but I want to hear more about it

upon my rewatch recently i was actually really upset by how lorelai treated jess first - she was such an asshole to a kid who was going through a tough time, and his response wasn't great but she swung first imo
I honestly don't remember that. I remember Jess being rude to her from the beginning.

Yep, that always bothered me.

Yeah I agree. It’s obvious that Jess was extremely troubled and basically abandoned by his mom and I felt like Lorelai never treated him fairly. When he and Rory got into that car crash I felt like her reaction to both Luke and Jess was ridiculous.

That’s funny because imo her reaction to Jess was one of the only bits of good parenting she did during the show.

and it was so odd because Lorelai obvious didn't have a great relationship with her parents was "troubled" herself as a teen.

Unrelated but I'm rewatching Peaky Blinders lately and Cillian <3

I was just rewatching last week and noticed the same thing. Lorelai would scream at him like he was an actual adult and had no sympathy for a kid obviously not liking his living situation. You’d think she’d be sympathetic.

i love the takes in this thread, and mine is that she was completely used to chill/well-behaved kids. rory, lane, dean. she had absolutely no experience with a rebel teen like jess and they completely clashed heads because she was so out of her element. lorelai and rory's main flaw is narcissism and not being able to handle it when people don't worship them
