The Cheesecake Factory tells landlords it will not be paying rents on April 1

The Cheesecake Factory says it will not be able to make upcoming rent payments for any of its storefronts on April 1 because of significant loss of income due to the coronavirus crisis.

Cheesecake Factory’s affiliated restaurants, such as Rock Sugar and North Italia, will also not make April 1 rent payments.

The company's chairman and CEO David Overton released a statment. Overton said that the company had to close several restaurants and is relying on delivery/carryout orders. He said that the decrease in customers has caused a serious financial blow to the business. Overton also asked for their landlords patience and understanding. He said that they hope to be able to make their payments as soon as they can.

GOOD! The economy is completely halted but somehow only already billion dollar corporations get legitimate bailouts. We get fucking moratoriums. Make this make sense. Cheesecake Factory will recover, I mean, it's AmeriKKKah's finest dining establishment besides Chilis, but we really need this garbage ass federal government to bail US out. 1,200 surely isn't enough.
And you know they're going to end up taking that 1200 from us somehow in the long run
and we're getting that money in MAY. by the time the third and fourth stimulus go out we'll be dead. this government is useless.

Y'all, I was over on r/landlord last night to see what it was like and wow. They were over there fighting with people that if they don't pay in April they will have to pay back pay. People were like "if I'm not working how can I?" It's about to get rough.

Also: https://www.reddit.com/r/realestateinvesting/comments/fotvwa/please_help_my_tenants_organized_and_are_saying/
lmao the "kick them all out they're being babies" comments, talk about tone deaf

Can they even do that? I saw a TikTok (the ultimate in political education!) w a guy that said landlords can’t just kick you out without going through the courts. So all this time I thought it was legal to just throw you and your shit out but maybe not?

my friend got a letter saying rent will still need to be paid and there will be no extensions. classy

I doubt my apt building will even bother to write anything. They will just expect it.
Lol same with my place. They also encouraged paying early...
Same with my building.

"Just a reminder, rent is still due no later than the 3rd of the month."
my apt management company hasn't said a goddamn word lmao, they haven't even sent an email

No peep over here either so idk lol
Same and they included Q's from other tenants and were like
No you can't delay payment, per the lease blahblahblah
No you can't break lease, per the lease blahblahblah
And one more question that I forgot.

They do not give a fuck. But they want us to notify them if we have COVID/showing COVID symptoms.
We got a letter like that - it was a bit more fluffy though “if you’re having difficulties, here’s a grant you can apply for...” omg!

i didn't hear from mine. they just took rent from my account like they do every 25th. smh
Mine did that too and said they'd still charge late fees. My roommate called and got them to agree not to assess a late fee on us (she's lived here for YEARS) so that's nice I guess.

ohhh another ontd landlord post where people can yet again tell us it's totally moral to profit from someone else's need for a roof over their head
first britney now this... im delighted tbh however i am fucking devastated for the waitstaff
Wait are you saying it's immoral to rent out spaces for living in general or that in this situation?

truth_and_facts

I think if you rent and make profit out of it yes it’s immoral if you’re making a living out of this. If you’re renting so you breakeven then it’s fine. People have to rent because some people own multiple properties and due to the inflated values of properties in big cities they don’t have enough money for a deposit and they have to rent out when they could be paying less for a mortgage if they had enough money for a deposit.

Nobody should have to pay rent rn.

I could go for some cheesecake.
mte. on everything.
I like this non celeb News
Kind of surprising from a chain restaurant, but I don't know how they were doing before the pandemic. Wish regular people were able to do this. I know some places have put a hold on evictions, but the most I've seen is for 60 days. Places like Arkansas have horrible renter's laws.
My city just did 90 days but I'm in CA.
Fight capitalism,Cheesecake Factory! The last landlord posts here have been entertaining. It's also interesting to hear everyone's experiences with rent.
Cheesecake Factory has some of the most disgusting food I've ever tasted.
Same..I didn't think even their cheesecake was all that.
I'm on that sub right now. Twitter has taken over every post. It's so amusing.

it's so funny that so many americans have been brainwashed into thinking this is the best country, while the rest of the world is both concerned and laughing at us (have been for years now)

This has been going on what, for 2 weeks and these companies already out of business and cant afford shit? Im sorry but no, this is upsetting me. I need 3 months of expenses saved and fuck me if I dont have it but these business cant survive one or 2 weeks and then they all turn socialist and the people are socialist to and have no problems with giving bailouts but when someone runs on a remotley socialist platform its the end of the world?

LIKE COME ON.
RIGHT? Who knew such large swaths of the economy were one bad week away from oblivion?
Right but the economy is supposed to be the best ever
Right. That's the conversation that America should be having. How fucking good is our economy if two weeks of social distancing and decreased travel totally fucking tanks it. I wish it were easier to migrate, I'd be out of here in a heartbeat. Fuck this stimulus. Just do what civilized countries are doing. Pay people at least 90% of their wages to stay home for a few weeks - and then business can resume as normal. These companies should have enough reserves set up to pay rent, etc - especially since they won't be paying their employees during this time.
Rigghhhhtttt??

I work for a small businesses, but most of us are managing being able to do our jobs from home.

Last week, was the first mostly work-from-home week and then this Monday, they let go of half the company.

It went from 0 to 1000 within a week. Just so insane. Nobody saw it coming
They do have enough money, but they choose to invest it in extravagant salaries for their CEOs and shareholders, not employees or even rent. They don't give a flying fuck, they'll be alright regardless of wether or not their employees will be able to survive.
THANK YOU

Like it blows my mind when Disney says they’d make a big profit from their parks because of how much it costs to operate it all. I wish this was a wake up call to Americans but people will still idolize billionaires like they accomplished something on their own.
Nobody here is okay with giving the companies bailouts especially no one that identifies as socialist or whatever but keep trying

I really think (and hope) the world will be different once we get through this. It is so interesting that yes, they expect people living paycheck to paycheck to have SIX MONTHS of emergency money yet not even 2 weeks into a crisis and how many of these billion-dollar corporations are like "welp we can't go on!"... its bullshit and I just hope this wakes a LOT of people up.
