Internet Divided Over Airplane Seat Debacle

A new video surfaced recently of a flight and two passangers who had a conflict...of sorts.

The woman's seat reclines and his doesnt. He punches the back of her seat repeatedly after she's reclined it.

Unrelated to the embedded tweet a lot of online users have commented on the issue with some calling for police to get involved for the man's actions toward the lady's seat.

Who do you think is in the wrong here?

That guy needs to buy himself some Knee Defenders.
I don’t like seat reclining either, and I guess that it’s not nice that she went ahead and did it anyway, but this guy lost all ground lashing out like that. He should have just asked for a change of seat.
they're both being jerks but he took it too far getting physical.

the only time i've ever reclined my seat was on my flight to australia in which EVERYONE on the plane did except for meals. i've also never had someone ask me if it's okay before reclining. it would be nice, especially when they choose to do so aggressively and spill my drink or shut my laptop with my fingers in it :)
She’s rude but I’m not giving a grown man a pass for throwing a toddler-like tantrum.
He got a crap seat, should've paid extra cash to avoid that shite. Had a man tap the wee screen from near start to finish on a flight a few years back from Heathrow to Denver, no I wasnt reclining but i wish I had reclined right into that fuckers finger and broke it.

I love our Jet2 airline here in the UK, their seats do not recline. Theyre a low cost carrier, so only "economy", dont fly anywhere for more than 5 hours-ish (I know they go to Turkey which im sure is their furthest destination but not sure of the flight time, maybe 5.5 hrs), so no real need for a reclining seat.
It looks to me like she is wrong.
I'll recline my seat on every damn flight I'm on, I dont give a fuck. Doesnt matter if its 14 hours or 4 hours, I paid for the seat lol? They were designed to be reclined?

And if the person behind me had a problem with it, that's a conversation we can have. But I have a herniated disc and lifelong back problems, I'm miserable and hurting if I dont recline. That being said, I've never had anyone say anything when I've reclined on a plane. I've never even met anyone who has a problem with it.

Sorry I'm not in any way sorry lol
As much as I despise entitled dudes like this, he's pushing her seat, "punching" is a little strong. Reclining only partway is basic decorum and full recliners are kind of rude, but he's the one who bought a seat all the way in the back; he knew what he was in for. If you ask nicely and they don't move, you just gotta suck it up, that's life. So I'll go with Everyone Sucks Here, But He Sucks Slightly More (for blaming her for his bad decision).
I’m honestly shocked by some of these replies. Have I been annoyed by people reclining? Yes. But at the end of the day it’s their right. It’s her right to decline, but he has ZERO right to keep hitting her chair like a man child. Don’t fly if you can’t handle it. Also, this is the most entitled white male thing to do, hitting her chair and harassing her like that. Yet some of you guys are defending him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

lol yeah. In an ideal situation these two could have come to an agreement but he lost my sympathy when he started to act like a toddler in defiance. I doubt he handles conflict well at all if he can’t even deal with this
mte. it's insane. I'm super particular about my personal space but I would literally never HIT someone for invading it. wtf.
For real. I'm surprised by people calling her a jerk. So what if he had asked her not to recline...? Does that mean she has to obey him by default? She still has the right to choose what she wants to do with her reclining seat. If she doesn't want to listen to him, then he's just gotta deal with it and let it go.
I agree! I’ve had my legs cramp from how tight and uncomfortable I was on a flight but I’d never tell someone to not recline infront of me, let alone HARASS them. Wtf?! Like you’re gonna say no one should recline when that’s literally what the seats do and there’s no actual airplane rule to not actually recline your seat? If I reclined and the person was pregnant or elderly or just couldn’t deal with it, I would oblige but I would never tell someone else to not recline. Also love how people keep saying “assholes who recline allllll the way” I’ve been on so many planes and the seats do not recline that much sis. Relax.

I can’t believe people are defending this grown white man baby. If he acts this disgusting on a plane I can’t imagine what he does when he doesn’t get his way elsewhere.
I never feel comfortable reclining (ESP all the way) because I’m worried about the person’s comfort behind me. We are all cramped in there like sardines anyway. But others may have medical issues so I’m not going to be a dick either if someone does recline a little. But he’s extra petulant for acting like a baby here and punching her seat. She could have been more considerate and not leaned back all the way but I have to say he’s a bit worse in this scenario. I doubt he respects women much if he treats them this way when he’s pissed
I can't stand when people are like BUT THE SEAT RECLINES as an excuse. It's called etiquette for a reason, go be a pedantic asshole representing the dredges of capitalism in hell somewhere for fucks sake.
I do think he’s an asshole here for acting like a toddler. He doesn’t seem to be one who handles conflict well. However I agree with you about those trying to make this about how planes are designed. Can’t believe we are making excuses for airlines who shove human beings in like sardines and charge us godly amounts to do so.
for real
I would've laughed at him if I were her. I also wouldn't have reclined for a short flight but men need to be humiliated for childish behavior.
this isn't a fun reclining post :(((

The airline is the asshole for limiting seat space so much that one of them is guaranteed to be uncomfortable no matter what. We are treated like cattle on planes.
