Internet Divided Over Airplane Seat Debacle

A new video surfaced recently of a flight and two passangers who had a conflict...of sorts.

The woman's seat reclines and his doesnt. He punches the back of her seat repeatedly after she's reclined it.

Unrelated to the embedded tweet a lot of online users have commented on the issue with some calling for police to get involved for the man's actions toward the lady's seat.

Who do you think is in the wrong here?

They should just stop making seats that recline if they refuse to put more space between seats.
I remember she said her back was severely damaged and she had a few surgeries for it. Let her recline.
This is a major element ppl refuse to take into account lol
Right, but by the same token, people can have leg and knee issues that are exacerbated by the person in front of them reclining.
It’s on everyone to cater to their own pain issues.

I never recline my seat because I think it's exceptionally rude, but it is however your right to do it if you want to make the wrong choice. I mainly wish people would warn you that they're about to recline because I hate when I get my tray table all set up and then BAM reclined seat and it's all for naught.

To be clear, he's in the wrong here and should be banned from this airline.
Lol. He is completely in the wrong once he resorted to punching her seat.

Airplane situations like this are what they are. He needed to suck it up and deal with it and not take it out on the woman in front of him. Yeah, it sucks. Yeah, it is annoying. I sympathize and would feel the same, but he took it a step further.

Airlines need to a complete overhaul on how they design planes for people who can't afford more expensive seats. It's bullshit and clear part of contributing and/or result of the overwhelming class divide in the world.
He is completely in the wrong once he resorted to punching her seat.

mte that's super uncalled for behavior, idk why some people don't seem to have a problem with that reaction
nail on the head
You FANTASIZE about punching the seat back like that, you don't actually DO it.
omg i watched the video after refusing to bc i didn't want to get boiling mad at him

but im laughing at the woman just CHILLING and that would've been me. him doing that would've rocked me to sleep
I've never cared if someone reclined.
Me either. And I’ve sat in that seat in the last row against the bathrooms and had someone recline on me. It was uncomfortable, sure, but I got literally the last seat on the plane after a six hour delay so I was just happy to be on the plane. I readjusted and found a way to make it work and that was that
Yeah, I haven't been on that situation but I would probably be like okay and deal.

Last year my flight was cancelled two days in a row so so I totally get that relief.
Me neither. I've also been in that last seat against the bathroom and didnt know it didnt recline until I tried. Yeah it sucks and the person in front of me had no issue doing so, I just sat there like welp. Thats what I get for choosing this seat.

Same. I don't care either. I usually just sleep through out the flight.
god like anyone defending him or "well both sides are wrong" a guy being violent towards a woman for a pretty standard airline inconvenience is so petty and weird. How about this - if you know you will be driven to violence for something that happens on every single flight don't fucking fly
yeah i'm weirded out by the comments
mte like damn learn to control yourself
this - it's not like he said something flippant and she recorded it, he repeatedly punched her seat like he was having a tantrum - that is UNREAL
mte. Some of this is ridiculous, and I say this as someone who hates it when people in front of me recline their seats. I get the frustration and annoyance, but why on earth are these sympathizers not taking issue with his petty and violent reaction? His reaction is completely out of line... She did something that she's allowed to do. People can argue whether or not it's rude to recline all they want, but she didn't do anything out of line yet his reaction is out of line
THANK YOU! The "both are awful" comments are pissing me off
lmao for real. these people are fucking psychotic.
Mte. A man using violence at a minor inconvenience toward a woman doesn’t sit well with me. You know damn well he wouldn’t have done it to a man.
I hate that the seats recline tbh.
It pushes the screen right in front of your face and it makes you feel like you've got zero space. People need to accept that economy sucks and keep their seats upright, at least then everyone has a modicum of space.

I once had an asshole in front of me who reclined as I was eating (and he saw it! And I asked him TWICE to please put the seat up!), I may have punched him a bit too. If you're gonna keep me from eating, be prepared to face some discomfort yourself.
Reclining while the person behind is eating is so rude. People really think everything is about them and act like being considerate is the ultimate burden, it's pathetic.
I've never had to recline because almost as soon as the plane is in the air, I'm asleep. Idk how or why but I can't stay awake for more than a few minutes on an airplane.
Lucky b-!
I think my body/brain associates planes with sleep. You know how you're supposed to make your bed a sleep-only area so that you won't feel awake when you're in bed? That's planes. So maybe if you take melatonin after takeoff enough times in a row, you'll develop the same unconscious habit!
Same. I always get a window seat for this reason. I spend all my flights slouched on the sides of the airplane, asleep. One time I managed to do it before the flight even took off and didn't wake back up until we landed.

Lucky!!! I wish I could sleep. I used to fly long-haul regularly from Tokyo to Toronto and it was hell because I could never sleep

This is me, I only wake up for eating or boozing it up
Same. I don’t care much about reclining. I have my window seat and am going to sit there that long. I had good experiences. So I’m all good
as someone who is tall and poor I no longer travel bc of this multilayered controversial issue
This feels like a shorts vs talls situation. I’d love to know the height of people who love reclining.
I guarantee most people who recline are shorties

I'm 5'1, and I loathe it when someone reclines in front of me.
Right? I'm 6'2 and I can barely fit my legs as is. I've had my knees smashed several times because the person in front of me reclined without warning. Can't imagine how people taller than me manage.

I think I notice a bigger divide in ideology based on rare traveler vs frequent flyer. I’m 6’0” and a frequent flyer. I believe in reclining. Most frequent flyers I’ve seen also share this belief. With that said, I almost never fully recline, just the very slightest recline. But I don’t fault people who do recline fully. The functionality is there for use. The only caveat is to be respectful during meal service, so ease up on that recline. And if someone is civil and asks for you not to recline, to respect that. Otherwise, I don’t have much sympathy for people against the recline. Yes, it sucks to have your knees dying. I’ve experienced that on planes where the person ahead of me wasn’t even reclining. But you get the service you paid for. Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.
Reclinegate part 2: electric boogaloo

(My 15 mins of fame on ONTD)
I loved reclinegate, harmless wank is the best
Mte when I saw the post title, lol
that seat isn't THAT reclined. most seats in economy don't recline that much, and i've never had any issues with someone reclining theirs even when i don't. it's within her right and unless it's a longhaul flight you put up with it. and don't act like a petulant child.
I saw someone in the replies under the tweets that he has been on almost 40 flights in his lifetime and he has NEVER had the person in front of them recline their seat. Why a fucking liar

He’s in the wrong. 100%. A grown man throwing a tantrum like a 5-year old.

Yeah it sucks she reclined but hey it’s a fucking airplane and seats recline. It’s not her fault the seats are so close together.
i read a lot of people on twitter saying his violent reaction attack should be considered assault. sure, he's being a brat, but so was she and if this is what some people consider a violent assault, it's sad. especially to those who actually are violently assaulted.
i think the fact that there is intentional physical contact with a closed fist on the back of the chair in order for it to hit her repeatedly could count as assault. things like lightly pushing someone on the shoulder or throwing a drink at them, telenovela style can be considered assault in the u.s.

the law is weird.
