Vulture's 100 (7) Best Emo Songs

Vulture had a bunch of contributors make a list of what they thought were the top 100 emo songs of all time. They have songs from bands like Drive Like Jehu, Panic! at the Disco, Los Campesinos!, The Appleseed Cast, The Anniversary, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Get Up Kids, Taking Back Sunday, Cursive, At the Drive In and many, many more. But of course they are wrong, and they left out your faves, so please discuss their inclusions, and add their omissions in the comments. A small sampling of their choices:

#53 Rainer Maria - "Tinfoil"

Did your fave make the cut?

i thought i was an emo kid but i never heard of american football until this list and they’re number one? I expected the black parade to be tbh
Loved that they had TWO Rainer Maria songs, and songs by Cursive, Bright Eyes, DCFC, Thursday, American Football and Desaparecidos. I know a lot of people are talking about how these songs take them back to high school, but I still listen to most of the bands I listed regularly.

I honestly don't know a lot of the bands, though; will have to check out the Spotify playist that accompanies thiis article.
Wow I haven't heard of A LOT of those bands/artists. I'm glad to see Something Corporate & Motion City Soundtrack on there though!

A few of my favorites: The Matches-Sick Little Suicide, Finch-What It Is To Burn, idk if this counts but Phantom Planet-California, Yellowcard-Only One, Simple Plan-I'm Just a Kid, Something Corporate-Globes and Maps, All Time Low-Jasey Rae, Mayday Parade-You Be the Anchor That Keeps My Feet on the Ground, I'll Be the Wings That Keep Your Heart in the Clouds"...I could go on forever! LOL
three cheers is a perfect album that's all i came to say bye
Don't agree with "That's What You Get" being so high, if there at all.
I think this list is damn near perfect. It’s like an evolution of emo and has a little bit of everything, so I think both 90s emo purists and hot topic emos will be happy lol. I fall somewhere in between those two categories so MCR and the like are not really emo to me. My era was mostly Bright Eyes, Dashboard, DCFC but I just recently got into Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Jawbreaker (idk if they count) and I’m really really liking it. And I LOVE American Football so I am very happy to see that Never Meant in the proper spot. Ain’t no song more emo than that damn song.

Sorry for this music nerd vomit.
omg yes, I fall into the same category so half of this list is like ?!?! but I agree, it covers a lot of ground and has something for everyone.
We’re just living in sad gal/guy harmony out here lol.
I came into this post too spicy and reading this comment opened my third eye.

The inclusivity is nice.

Taking Back Sunday should be higher dammit! I still listen to "Tell All Your Friends" on the regular lol. Happy to see Straylight Run, Rainer Maria, The Appleseed Cast and Motion City Soundtrack were included!
"There's No 'I' In Team" and "180 by Summer" are just some of the best and my most favorite songs EVER. TNIIT is just...GUH. So good. There's so much emotion in it.
Rainer Maria's "Planetary" and "Breakfast of Champions" are some solid Emo songs.

I recently found my old burnt CDs from the earlier/mid 00s and I had so much Dashboard Confessional on it.
Somewhat relatedly (not really emo but same category as a lot of these bands) I can’t believe how expensive the Format reunion tickets are. I would pay inflated prices to see them but not like $500 for two tickets!!
The fact that all three NYC shows sold out within seconds is shady as hell, tbh. I'm still bitter about it.
WAIT WHAT noooo how did I not know about that
I've never really understood what, exactly, made a band emo and this list honestly didn't do much to clear it up but oh the nostalgia!

This post is very relevant to my interests!!! The Used should be wayyyy higher. I had my first kiss after a used concert in 05 lol.

My fave bands from my 03-05 emo period were The Used, Taking Back Sunday, MCR, Thursday, Straylight run, Silverstein, Senses Fail and AFI (though they don't really count and are still one of my fave bands)

Oh man this list took me back
i will always be here for some motherfucking something corporate.
smh at y'all not counting paramore as emo

you telling me these songs ain't emo ?!

My only issue is they only put "That's what you get" as the song on the list :/
paramore will always be great
This list is disgustingly inaccurate because there is no Armor for Sleep, no Matchbook Romance, and it ranked Paramore higher than My Chem.
