In an interview with NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Selena talks about the difficulties that she has experienced over the past couple of years.
She discusses how she learned to take care of her mental and physical health and her public persona. Selena opened up about how she used her music to help her find closure.
Selena also revealed that she experienced emotional abuse with ex Justin Bieber.
Garcia-Narvarro asked Selena if "Lose You To Love Me" was a goodbye to Bieber and if that time in her life was painful.
Selena responded: “No, because I’ve found the strength in it. It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse.”
Garcia-Narvarro replied: “You mean emotional abuse?”
Selena responded: “Yes, and I think that it’s something that — I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”
NPR stated that they reached out to Justin‘s team for comment and has yet to receive a response.
