great post, OP!

My DMs are open if anybody wants to send me good sites that won't give me a virus. Can exchange for pictures of my friends' dogs
Thank you, bb! I appreciate it. Let me know if there's something I might be able to help you with!
Could you message me a good site, too...pretty please? I would love to see "Little Women" but it isn't even released in my country. :/

I truly do not understand what everyone saw in once upon a time in Hollywood. I literally fell asleep in the theater. It robbed uncut gems
Hard agree
i took a bathroom break about an hour and a half into once upon a time in hollywood, checked the time, and almost wept. ended up just taking like a 15 minute break standing outside of the theatre on my phone before i had the strength to walk back in. god i hated every agonizing second of that film lmfao
omg I kept checking my watch too
Why did you even go back in?

I saw it last week and went in with a very open mind and was bored to tears. I like brad pitt’s outfit and he had a couple funny lines and it was pretty to look at....that was IT

my dad was so disappointed in me, he loved it and all I could say was that it was hideously long.

I just generally feel like I’ve outgrown QT in general though, none of his stuff is interesting to me

That's how I felt about Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. Quentin is so overrated, he's the new Woody.
exactly how i feel about the joker. unnecessarily long. nonsensical plot. over embellished slow mo scenes of him painting his face and dancing in the streets does not a character study make.

Uncut Gems was brilliant and ia
Mte. Such a horrible, boring film.
My hatred for that movie consumes me and I'm okay with that.
It’s a movie about Hollywood made by a film nerd. Not much more to understand.
It was painful to watch. I get loving that period of Hollywood history because I love it too, but it was like watching QT play with living dolls while working through his own middle-age man-pain issues. The pacing was so plodding which I put on the loss of Sally Menke. Without her, Tarantino just doesn't have the self-discipline to tell a tight, energetic story. The only scene worth anything was the ranch scene because it had the appropriate tension and energy.
I didn't hate it by any means but the people that are sincerely arguing that it's one of tarantino's best are on something. it had moments but added up to a big 🤷imo
I fell asleep while watching it too. Luckily for me it was on an airplane. I'd feel even more disapointed it I'd actually paid and saw it in a theater.

Has anyone seen The Two Popes? I didn't even know this movie existed until it started getting nominated everywhere
i managed to watch most of the hyped awards movies this year and almost managed except for the two popes. i fell asleep within 30 mins then woke up and decided to just give up. watch shadow on netflix instead. you won't regret it.
Yes, I loved it!
I got about 3/4 of the way through, it's really boring.
i saw it and it was my favorite move out of all the ones iv seen.
Im not even religious and i loved it.
I enjoyed it.
Its one of the most boring movies I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching. But clearly opinions are divided...
as someone who neither loved nor hated it… imo how much you'll like it depends on how okay you are with "movies that are pretty much just a stage play filmed as-is." the acting is good and the writing is fine but it's not terribly cinematic. for better AND worse, you wouldn't really miss anything if they had just filmed pryce & hopkins doing their thing on a black stage.
Of the BP nominees, I still have to watch Joker, The Irishman and 1917. Also haven't watched Bombshell, Judy, The Two Popes, or Pain & Glory. I'm slacking this year, damn.
oop i didn't realize The Edge of Democracy got a nom. i couldn't stop crying after watching it

havent seen many. watched marriage story, how to train your dragon, endgame, rocketman and hair love

plan to watch little women, jojo, knives out and uncut gems soon

That was cute, lol. I wish Uncut Gems had all of Joker's nominations
Uncut Gems was shockingly good and Adam gave the best performance of his career imo. idk why the voters didn't take it more seriously.
I loved this. I have such a soft spot for him and I love Kathy Bates. He should've been nominated.
i've seen all the BP nominees except for jojo rabbit, 1917, and the irishman. i'm not particularly interested in any of them but will make an attempt to watch them this week just for the sake of completion......obligatory 'fuck the oscars' tho
i watched the irishman yesterday and it feels like it was a fever dream lol

i took so many breaks
1917 was good imo. Had a good cry. I need to watch it again tho
1917 was actually very good tbh
I almost watched Parasite today but decided to binge the Witcher instead. I'm poor. :( But maybe that wasn't a terrible decision since I had no idea it was gonna be available to rent so soon.

I watched Klaus on Christmas and that movie was sooo fucking cute. I got teary eyed at the end lmao.
Klaus is sooooooo good
Omg yes Klaus! So unexpectedly moving! Everyone I watched it with were in tears at that ending
message me if you want a link for Parasite? :)
I’ve seen all the BP noms except the two popes and I’m not planning on watching it lol. Rooting for parasite and little women
Just realized it wasn’t nominated so I guess I’ve seen them all
I want to see bombshell and marriage story before the big might

And...maybe...Jojo rabbit? I’m just so dumbfounded by her nomination that I kind of want to see
you will be unimpressed tbh
I’m missing 3 best picture nominees the irishman, marriage story and ford v ferrari. The Irishman is already on my list but I might try and watch the other two cause I’ve never seen all the bp nominees and I’m so close to being complete lol
Lol I've only seen

Joker
The Lighthouse
Endgame

I've seen:
The Irishman, Little Women, Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bombshell and Knives Out

I'm seeing Joker this weekend and seeing 1917 tomorrow.

Parasite hasn't played at my AMC and I keep missing screenings so I'm waiting to rent it and watch at home. I'll probably rent Jojo Rabbit too. My goal this year is just to see every Best Picture nominee at least.

I don't really care to see Judy but I want to see the winners and I feel like she might win but ugh I just don't want to watch it

I'm gonna fall asleep to Missing Link tonight

I know they're not nominated but the other movies I would really like to see at some point are Uncut Gems and The Farewell

I'm going to be better next year about going to screenings, because I could've gone to screenings for every one of the movies I didn't see and I missed out from laziness a lot this year
Im sf sick of saoirse getting noms just bc she did a movie that year. It’s jlaw all over again. She was good but not as good as lupita who took risks and went balls to the wall and deserves that spot so much more
At least Saoirse's public persona is FAR less irritating than JLaw's Cool Girl schtick, my god that was irritating. I don't think I could have taken another year of Oscar campaigning from JLaw

eh, not really. she was totally blanked for mary queen of scots last year while her co-star margot robbie got BAFTA and SAG nominations. all of saoirse's noms have been for best picture nominees and they're all great performances. that wasn't the case with jennifer lawrence. if they were as desperate to anoint her as they were jennifer, she would have won by now too.

renee and charlize were not as good as saoirse, nor were their films as strong. and they've both already won.

i actually think margot is closer to what you are describing. she's been nominated twice at the Oscars and three times in a row at BAFTA and SAG for films that weren't picture nominees. she got double BAFTA nominations this year, including one for a film in which she barely does or says anything. i think swap their filmographies and margot would have already won for one of saoirse's roles whereas saoirse would have likely missed out on some of those noms

I want to see The Lighthouse, Parasite, Joker, and 1917 but honestly none of the films this year, or for a few years now actually, have interested me that much.
