Canada hasn't decided if it would cover security costs for Prince Harry and Meghan

Finance Minister Bill Morneau said the federal government hasn't decided if Canada would help to cover the security costs.

A spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office declined to comment.

Sources claim Justin Trudeau has told the Queen already that Canada will cover the costs.

The cost of protecting H&M has been pegged at $1.7 million a year.

Great and underrated first comment
Can this be the official first gif for these posts?

Hard pass. They can pay for their own security, they're rich enough. And for everyone claiming his millions from his mom wouldn't be enough to cover costs, he and Meghan are certainly going to be cashing in on their names and access to the crown when they go into the private sector. They'll have more than enough.
they're gonna be rich as fuuuuck
i don't think us plebes really realise how rich these bastards are, like we think rich and we think about winning a couple of million in the lottery or something lol.

Gonna. They are. There will be no financial impact. they probably live off interest.
I agree. Seems from this article though that Canada has an out as they aren’t here on an official role and we don’t have succession laws so their titles might not be recognized if they become canadian citizens

"Financially independent" means "cover your own security"

I imagine he has invested some of that money too, and gets paid out, as rich people do
That's not ideal to say the least. How is it any of Canada's responsibility to cover the cost of H&M living abroad?
maybe a commonwealth special relationship thing? i have legit no idea, seems nuts.
Well they have the queen as their monarch.
not for long if they keep going this route

while i do think these two rich idiots should pay for their own security detail, i also appreciate how it could be a good investment for canada to pamper them because of how much positive attention having them there brings to the country.

can't they like, get rich ppl "jobs" and pay for their own shit
Hell no!
All I am seeing are kpop fancams on peoples posts on megan and harry trends now on Twitter.

The kpop fan vids are everywhere on twitter now.
they were posting them even when sulli died.

if i see those fancams anywhere, i just report accounts for spam and block them.
I try to but it is exhausting. They sort of ruin twitter for me now.
i report them as spam when i see them, i enjoy kpop but even i find it obnoxious. keep that shit in house
K-pop stans are obnoxious as fuck.
Idk why this comment made me laugh

They post them on tweets about rape, murder, child abuse, like it’s fucking vile. I know I say it all the time but I hate stans.

it’s either kpop fan videos or that annoying person who posts that random gaga performance everywhere. like, just stop.

It’s so freaking annoying
Turn off the media player on twitter! It saved me
They can start a go fund me page
lol, Catherine Scorsese can give them tips.
Wouldn’t being financial independent mean covering your own security cost?
NOPE. On principle this is a non-fucking-starter, and I would back QC (that racist province lol) if they do their usuals on this.

Those two are independently wealthy with an incredibly high earning trajectory/ceiling. We have social programs deeply underfunded in this country, from the west to the east coast, and I'd be damned if even ONE dollar went to this. Fuck that.
100% agree. First nation people need access to water and housing. Money should be going to them first before ever considering paying for over privileged spoiled brats
for those of us who know nothing of canada, does QC (i assume quebec?) not like the queen or smth?

Quebec wants the monarchy abolished

heres a neat excerpt from an article

"Symbolically, the British beat the French on the Plains of Abraham," said Brownstein, referring to the 1759 battle that led to the French ceding the territory that eventually became Quebec to Great Britain.

In times of war, Quebecers were very loyal subjects. The current Queen's father, King George VI, and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, chose Quebec City as the first stop on their visit to Canada in May 1939. There, and in Montreal, they received a rapturous welcome as they drummed up Canadian support for the coming Second World War.

But the postwar period saw the emergence of Quebec nationalism. The Quiet Revolution of the 1960s modernized the state, asserted the power of the province's French-speaking majority and gave birth to Quebec separatism"
They're French!
Absolutely 100% agree. I'm offended by this article and that Bill Morneau can't make a decisive statement on it.
lmao incredible
The cost of protecting H&M has been pegged at $1.7 million a year.

that's not that much (for them)
do like three TED talks and pay it yourself
This. Write a fucking cook book and pay for yourselves.
Monarchy shouldn't even exist in 2020, ya'll expect us to use our taxes to pay for your security?? BISH go home.
They can pay their own security costs. They can afford it.
Why would they?
honor bullshit due to the queen being our monarch too but mostly the spotlight Harry & Meg'll bring to Canada, probably
