War of the Windsors: Queen Elizabeth II confirms Harry and Meghan will move to Canada

Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.

My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.

the use of harry and meghan seems so informal!

obviously this statement really says nothing but im curious about their patronages and if they will be allowed to keep their "sussex royal" foundation name
I’m sure Meghan aand harry love each other, but also marrying a prince and dealing with the bullshit of the press and racism, just doesn’t seem worth it and I don’t blame meghan for being screw this I’m out .
Hmmm...The use of "Harry" and "Meghan" make me think their titles are gone. Interesting.

🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
oh
hopefully Canada's obligation to pay for security is gone as well then
Do you mean the HRH? The ducal title could only be removed by Act of Parliament, and there'd really be no reason that they'd even be concerned about it, since there are tons of peers who are not members of royal family (including branches of the royal family that have grown too distant; the next Dukes of Kent and Gloucester, for instance, will shed the princely rank).
Ah, I see. I don't know much about how the rules~ work. I've just always seen the HRH and The Duchess of Sussex.

can you give up the title?

I think so too
But there is also the Sussexes in the statement.
Yup
That is a good point..
She's not gonna strip Harry of his title while frigging Andrew is out here causing a royal embarrassment.
Would they lose their titles if they step down as senior royals?

Shit's getting real
Congrats on putting out a statement that really doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know.
Meghan and Harry's diabolical plan to steal Canada from the Queen continues apace.

In all seriousness, though, there's something very fitting about an American-British couple moving to live in Canada.

Also, I bet you anything that Upper Canada College is already mustering all its resources to convince them to send Archie there when the time comes.
Fucking UCC lol theres no way hes not going there
I thought they were moving to Vancouver... But if they live in Toronto, the real question is, where would their potential daughter go, BSS or Havergal....
BSS is a finishing school in disguise I hate that place

Branksome! Plus it's an IB school.
Fuck UCC and if they have another kid and it’s a girl fuck BSS
This statement says Canada instead of North America like the original statement.

Could be nothing. Could be drama.
My impression is that Meghan and Harry talked about spending time in "North America" in the sense that they'd live in Canada and visit Meghan's mom in L.A. more frequently.

Given that the biggest motivator for this seems to have been to reduce their exposure to the tabloid press, I don't think it would ever have made much sense to relocate to Los Angeles (or New York).
Canada is still under monarchy so I dont think they'd move to America.
I mean, Canada is in North America.
I mean Lizzie I know you need your naps but maybe your overpaid press secretary could’ve come out with this at the start and we wouldn't have to sit through the outpouring racism and misogyny that resulted for the last few days?

Lmao, this what I think too. Maybe if she got rid of her courtiers who caused this idiocy and had a decent press secretary, none of the bullshit would've happened.

i just wrote that they can stop pretending that it's about andrew because he was photographed with epstein in 2010 and lost his role as trade envoy was terminated in 2011 because of this. no one in this family cares about his victims and neither do royal stans.

CNN has already been reporting that Harry gets 95% of his income from Charles and only 5% from the Queen/taxpayers.

omg lemme see quebec bitch a fit about this.
Will keep you updated haha
Since they're not coming in any sort of official government capacity (though as some columnists have written, I guarantee that they're going to be enlisted by local politicians for many a photo opportunity), I don't think anybody would care.
has that stopped people from complaining before?

Although the finance minister just said Ottawa hasn't made any final decision on if they will fund their security at the moment.
Unless that “report” becomes fact - that canadian taxpayers would be paying for their security detail.

You know the new Bloc guy will too lmao
I'm going to rely on Quebec to make a fuss if Canada has to foot their security bills.

The rest of Canada will be too lazy/complacent to complain or they will see it as "tradition!!"

Thank god we pay enough in taxes already
Still v vague about funding. But the “transition period” phrase makes me think they’ll be getting $$$ from Charles for now but she wants them to become just regular private citizens. My theory is that the Sussexes want to be celebrity philanthropists, free to pursue money making opportunities and to do charity work how they want to do it.
I'm still laughing at the idea of H&M keeping Baby Archie away.
I don't think they'd be that cruel to not attend family gatherings.
I mean, they aren't now required for Trooping the Color, and all that other royal stuff.

Someone in a previous post mentioned that the Queen has some sort of right of custody over her grandchildren/great-grandchildren, and I don't understand how can someone marry into this family. I'd be so worried that a divorce could mean they limit my time with my own child.

“The sovereign has legal custody of the minor grandchildren,” said royal expert Marlene Koenig. “This goes back to King George I [who ruled in the early 1700s], and the law’s never been changed.” (Source)
That's fucked up.
lmao marlene is so annoying. she has a lot of connections to a ton of current and former royals and gets a lot of private information but she’s so haughty and snooty about it lmao i’m a member of a royal genealogy forum and she always leaves these obnoxious comments and you can tell people are super annoyed with her

Good

Also the RBF is really useless and idg why people feel so strongly about it. I mean I guess if your British maybe but if you're not?
they're useless, but they represent the british government on overseas trips. they have part of their lifestyles paid for by british taxpayers + when they go abroad, their security/living is spilt with whichever country is also hosting them for the meantime.

they are basically celebrities but have some sort of power/represent something more than an average celebrity does, i get why people feel strongly.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been a bigger push to just end the royals tbh. Imaging how much you’d save on taxes.

Lol I ask myself this very question every time I eagerly click on an anything-to-do-with-the-royals post. My country has a bloody history with them. Murdering mother fuckers put our women and children in concentration camps when we revolted against being a British colony during the Boer wars. Our freedom came at a very high price, literally through rivers of blood, but we did get it. Not in time though to prevent the FUCKERS from claiming the biggest diamonds ever found in the world as their own (the diamonds are to this day set in the royal sceptre and crown at the Tower of London). I must admit, when I saw our diamonds displayed with all that haughty British "of course this is ours by right", and knowing what they did to my forefathers to take what was rightfully ours, I felt a primal rage at wanting to hit someone with said spectre. And yet... Maybe my interest in following all the posts and comments is due to a small smouldering ember of rage, sitting on the sidelines with popcorn, waiting and watching for them to come crashing down from their high thrones. On the other hand, I must also admit that I do every now and again discover I'm a closet Disney-princesses fan. LMAO And then, just for a moment, with all the talk of queens, kings, princes and princesses, I smile at a moment of Disney-tinted-glasses' magic - until the next article of how one of them fucked up, or fuck-up Trump, or Iran, or the Australian bush fires, or the rampant poaching in my country... You get the point...

I read that all in Claire Foy lol

Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

We'll see.
