Celebrities react as Australia's bushfire crisis continues

https://instagram.com/p/B62Ers5BMbU

Australia has been experiencing a catastrophic bushfire season for months now, with no end in sight. Celebrities from Australia and around the world have taken to social media to provide information about ways people can support firefighting efforts and provide support to people and animals affected by the fires. Others, including Australian feminist Clementine Ford and American actress Bette Midler, criticised the response of Australian prime minister Scott Morrison. As of 8 AM Saturday morning local time, nearly six million hectares (60,000 sq km or 14.8 million acres) of bush, forest and parks have been burned and there were nearly 150 fire incidents being reported in New South Wales, with catastrophic weather conditions expected across many affected areas.

Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you for posting these!
This is so horrific.
It's just so overwhelming to see my country on fire for so long and who knows when the fires will calm down

I'm so angry and upset
I've just become completely nihilistic about our whole situation to be honest. The country is on fire, the reef is on an inevitable path to extinction, our climate change policy is non-existent, our politicians are weak-willed stuffed shirts or evil, scheming lunatics (the PM is worst of them all) and what can be done about it? Nothing. It's like shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic. People will keep voting in scum and policies won't change.

I saw an article today that said Australia is committing climate suicide, which feels accurate.
me too. i feel numb and defeated. not even the opposition leader is willing to take on the coal industry. we're fucked, there's no hope.
me too. a lot of what I feel is rage and irritation and sadness but like, complete and utter lack of surprise at how shitty humans continue to be to each other and the planet.

nihilism is kind of where I always go, honestly. it's horrible but.
i feel the same, it really feels hopeless.
i actually dont see any reason to save humanity. just sucks we're taking so many other innocent creatures with us.
Yep
American here and I share your fears. If anything, the government is responsible for making it easier for companies to skirt around laws thanks to ignoring EPA regulations. The whole situation is disgusting. When CA was on fire last year, Dump refused to send federal aid because they vote blue.
Wtf isnt that illegal?
i read that article and freaked the fuck out lol. scomo won't go after coal. i really, really want labor to get in earlier than the election just because i think they are the lesser of two evils right now.

As an activist, all I can tell you is that you can't make it your job to change the world. But you can work on changing you immediate community. It can take a long time, but building social bonds locally to tackle the issue and then using that power to improve what you can impact (your neighbourhood, your town, your state/province) means you are 1. actually working against the problem rather than paralyzed by it and 2. actually setting local president to be scaled up once the time is right.

Keep up hope!! Inaction and a feeling of powerlessness is what they want-- not because you are powerless, but because if you tap into the power you do have, you challenge them.

I know it’s wrong, but I’ve been pretty much consumed with apathy. The country is on fire, our prime minister doesn’t care, people are struggling to make enough money to live, and now we’re probably going to war with Iran. What’s the point?
It was embarrassing reading comments by Aussies stating that the death of coral reefs is a lie and blaming the green party for the fires. The world is full of idiots.

I'm not just talking about the tourist spots and major cities and beaches. I don't want anything to burn down.

That’s absolutely not true lol I’m in a city now and it’s smokey af
it's a gorgeous country. I loved it when I visited and I only saw the Perth and Melbourne areas, but there's so much of it i still want to see.

but so much of it has been ravaged :(
what the fuck is wrong with him

the second clip of the young woman being forced into a handshake and then shushed like she's a toddler having a tantrum when she's respectfully asking for help still makes my blood boil. we are in hell.
Now he’s out here saying like “oh people are just really hurting, but I don’t take it personally *smug scomo smile*” like....I can feel my blood pressure rising
Wtf. He truly does not care.
he's from marketing and he is SO BAD AT MARKETING.
Right??? Did his dad own the company he worked for or what? He’s the iSnack 2.0 of politicians.

I truly don’t understand what his game plan here was. Did he genuinely think these people would want to talk to him, or was it all one big photo op? In which case he’d have to be stupid not to realise people were filming him. Either way, he’s scum.
this is a man who spent $100k of taxpayers money for an empathy consultant
The way he grabs her, what a piece of shit.
Why are all the Western countries voting in horrible leaders who don't care about them? I do not get it.
This made me so angry when I first saw it, I was fuming all day. He can't even pretend to be sympathetic to them in front of cameras. The complete disrespect he shows these people, not allowing them to decide for themselves if they want to shake his hand and respect their decision, makes it clear that he thinks they're below him. If I'd been in their position, I wouldn't be able to restrain myself.
Today is gong to be awful. It’s supposed to be 47 where I live. No rain, extreme heat, fires... And Scott Morrison doesn’t give a fuck. I hate him so much. I didn’t think I could ever hate a prime minster more than Tony Abbott, but Morrison managed to make me despite him completely. The way he walked away from that woman just trying to talk to him about giving the RFS more money. God he’s such a shit cunt.

We can’t lose anymore people and animals and homes. I hope everyone is safe :(
right???

i heard that there's a cyclone in perth? people are hoping it carries moisture that carries over the country. honestly, i've done so many rain dances (not kidding) and it only brought a sprinkle of rain a week or so ago. we desperately need it to pour. 8( i hate that so many animals are dying. it's horrific.

Australia's MPs are really inept that is what I am getting. Pray for the poor souls who will be paying for this for years to come.
I didn’t think it was possible for me to hate anyone as much as Tony Abbott.

Scumo is a piece of shit and I sincerely hope the shame of his useless, damaging and undeserved “leadership” weighs heavily on him for the rest of his oxygen thieving evangelical life.
i hope this ruins him and forces his party to kick him out. he's losing so much favour with very loud australians.

sorry, i should say scomo and jenny since he can't do anything without mentioning her.
Have the other LNP stooges been saying anything though? I know there were a couple of low level backbenchers saying more needs to be done but otherwise it seems to be crickets, and that drunken beetroot’s occasional ranting about messages from God of course.

And let’s be real, when Scummo inevitably gets knifed it will be Dutton getting his moment and he’s sure as hell not going to be a better option. We are fucked.

Very sad and terrifying.
My heart is breaking over this. Stay safe, ONTD Australians <3 :(
