The make-up artist allegedly said that Wendy was told by staff to walk out of this tunnel in the dark, but the stairs weren't set up, so she just... fell a solid 4m to the ground while walking?— John Yoo (@oniontaker) December 25, 2019

An SM Entertainment representative released a statement saying Wendy from Red Velvet was injured during rehearsals for the SBS Song Festival, which is a kind of an end of the year round-up show where idols and artists perform the songs released this year and participate in special and collab stages. SM stated: "During rehearsals for her individual performance for 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon, Wendy fell from the stage and sustained injuries.”
They continued to explain, “Wendy was immediately taken to the hospital for a thorough examination, and she sustained injuries to her face and fractures in her pelvis and wrist on the right side of her body. She has undergone emergency treatment and is currently awaiting additional examinations.” They concluded by stating, “As her health comes first, we will focus on her treatment.”
SBS has also released an official statement and said, “On December 25, there was an unfortunate accident during rehearsals for 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon that led to Red Velvet’s Wendy sustaining injuries.”
They continued to state, “As a result, Red Velvet is unable to appear in the live show of 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon, and we sincerely apologize to fans and viewers. We hope that Red Velvet’s Wendy will have a fast recovery, and SBS will take greater care to ensure safety in the future.”
Red Velvet's live and collab stages for the Festival were immediately cancelled. SM entertainment stated: “Regarding Red Velvet’s future schedule, we will make an announcement once everything has been sorted.” Red Velvet was about to begin promotions for their latest single "Psycho" but it is unknown what will happen to their schedules now. Red Velvet's pre-recorded performance of "Psycho" (their first stage) that was recorded prior to the injury still aired during the festival.
According to fans who attended the pre-recording (some stages were pre-recorded before the live performances), other artists such as Twice and Chungha mentioned the stage being shaky and feeling unsafe while performing. This was a day before Wendy's injury. Various artists (Itzy, NCT, Monsta X) were also seen slipping and almost falling over during the rehearsals.
