Indie Film Release Guide: November 8th [An ONTD Original]

In wide release this week from the big studios, there are several options to choose from, including Doctor Sleep, Last Christmas and Playing with Fire. Check out the list below for offerings from smaller studios.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Marriage Story

Plot: An incisive and compassionate portrait of a marriage breaking up and a family staying together.
What you should know: There are two songs from the Stephen Sondheim musical Company featured in the film.

Midway

Plot: The story of the Battle of Midway, told by the leaders and the sailors who fought it.
What you should know: This is the first feature written by Wes Tooke.

Honey Boy

Plot: A young actor's stormy childhood and early adult years as he struggles to reconcile with his father and deal with his mental health.
What you should know: The script is a semi-autobiographical look at the childhood of Shia LaBeouf and his relationship with his father.

The Kingmaker



Director: Lauren Greenfield
Genre: Documentary
Plot: Centering on the controversial political career of Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines whose behind-the-scenes influence of her husband Ferdinand's presidency rocketed her to the global political stage.
What you should know: The director is responsible for last year’s Generation Wealth documentary.

Love is Blind



Stars: Shannon Tarbet, Aidan Turner, Benjamin Walker, Matthew Broderick

Genre: Comedy, Drama
Plot: A woman with selective perception, who cannot see her mother, is prescribed by her psychiatrist to spend time with a suicidal man that has fallen in love with her - but she cannot see either.
What you should know: This was filmed four years ago and is just now getting a release.

Bala
