R.I.P., Robert Forster (1941-2019), Oscar-nominated actor.



Robert Forster's career in film began in the late 1960s, and for about three decades he worked steadily in projects of varying levels of prestige and prominence, including the lead in Haskell Wexler's 1969 drama Medium Cool and a couple of cult TV roles in the early 1970s.

In 1997, he became one of the many older actors to experience a career boost courtesy of Quentin Tarantino, who cast him opposite Pam Grier in Jackie Brown. Forster was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Forster would return to the Elmore Leonard oeuvre a few years later when he played a supporting role in the ABC television drama Karen Sisco. Collaborations with David Lynch (Mullholland Drive, Twin Peaks: The Return) and Alexander Payne (The Descendants) were also to follow, as well as television guest roles on shows like Heroes and Breaking Bad.[Recent media spoilers.]The very day of Forster's death saw the release of El Camino, in which he plays a pivotal role.
