Don't overthink it! If you don't feel super comfortable with dating yet, meet them for like 30 mins to an hour, and don't have a drink if you don't want to!! Something else I've been doing is not giving me number out until after the first meeting, it makes things a lot easier if you're not interested in seeing them again.

Above all, it should feel fun! I'm finally getting back into the swing of online dating too, and it feels great to be assertive about what I want! Even down to not just accepting a proposed time/location if you're not feeling it.

My pops was one and he always told me they are cheaters and alcoholics as someone with 27 years of being around the fire dept because i'm from a FD family it's all true. Pops was an alcoholic and his brother was a cheating alcoholic and so was all their buddies. Also, my stepdad is a firefighter and phew the alcoholism masked as "a few beers after work" is so real.

I co-opted this comment like a week ago and I'm co-opting it again now.

And WHEW the "few beers/drinks after work" IS real. They're truly convinced it's not a problem.

Obviously that's not the case for EVERY FF, but it does seem to be weirdly prevalent.
