This was a poorly produced segment. What is the book about; the anecdotes don’t clearly connect the dots to the book’s premise. Is he rehashing concluded events, is he proposing a paradigm shift in how people think, feel, behave? Mess.
Summary of conversation [Spoiler (click to open)]
Malcolm Gladwell is a Canadian journalist, author, and public speaker. He has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1996. He has published five books: The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference; Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking (2005); Outliers: The Story of Success; What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures, a collection of his journalism; and David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants.
He has a new book out Talking to Strangers.
Recounts the event where Sandra Bland was stopped for essentially nothing (not using turn signal), the officer asks her to step out of car, she eventually dies by suicide a few days later. He doesn’t mention ~race in his book but feels race definitely plays a part in his observations. He thinks when race is the first thing talked about, it stalls the conversation and doesn’t allow for more sophisticated dialogue to change things. [Idk what his angle is.]
Abby mentions the book talks about how people read others. He brings up Amanda Knox, how people think that other people’s emotions are always expressed accurately in their facial expressions. Watching tv (uses Friends as example) has convinced us that emotions always match facial expression, when reality is not like that. He says we jump to conclusions because the facial expressions and body language don’t always match what we expect as acceptable reactions. Some more on Knox event. Joy goes to Tr/mp, so far 12K lies. Why are there people who still believe the lies. He was proud to have written a book with no mention of Tr/mp. Meghan points out only 3 in 10 people know their neighbors. He starts to talk about cultural shift of hanging with friends and neighbors (presume he would lead to isolation and loneliness shaping our perceptions differently) but Whoopi has to end the segment in mid-sentence, bloop.
Hot Topic Racist in Chief Strikes Bahamas
This f/cker is turning away Bahamians who’ve lost everything, saying they’re very bad people, very bad gang members, very bad drug dealers who can’t come to America [because they’re not white]. Meanwhile he wanted to have the Taliban at Camp David. Racist in Chief didn’t have a problem when he hosted his pageant in the Bahamas, the DHS had already said it was humanitarian issue, both Senators from FL said their state would take them, rich folks who vacation or who use the Bahamas as a tax shelter want them to get help, goddddddd. How do people not see this is a racial issue, how is anyone still in denial about this /rhetorical. There is nothing that is not scream into the void rage inducing about this segment.

Hot Topic Traitor Tot and Proxy Wife Hate Each Other
According to this article in The Atlantic
Donald Jr and Ivanka are at odds, fighting over who will be daddy’s favorite and take over The Dynasty. The whole family is so gross. [Yeah Barron is a child but he’s still got that dna so therefore it’s only a matter of time.] Supposedly they’re both planting stories to get back at each other. The whole family is filled with mediocrity. Traitor Tot has high approval in Montana, and the right loves him, whereas Ivanka -what does she do except fake nebulous alleged women’s issues (lol Meghan hates her). Abby wants to know why she’s even in the WH, what does she do, mentions that when she interviewed Ivan(ka) the Terrible, she felt Ivanka wanted to tell her ~something. Bwa ha ha, Sunny wonders -through morse code? Premise is that Ivanka disagrees with her dad on everything. What a useless human. Meghan says Jarvanka want to be accepted back into NY liberal circles [insert fur wearing champagne drinking lady meme]. More talk about do-nothing cretin family vs (example) the Kennedys who actually put in the work, regardless if one agrees with their policy(s).
For the user in that McCain funeral thread who kept insisting that Jarvanka were invited, Meghan says again that they crashed HerDad™ funeral.
Hot Topic A Bush is Trying It
Billy Bush felt the Access Hollywood P/ssy tape was weaponized against him. Whoopi says Nope, if he was just a surprised or silent bystander, then maybe, but he participated in the convo. Joy and Abby talk about the bad men who have been replaced by better women. Sunny says she and Meghan agree about the implication of cancel culture, in that people should be worthy of redemption. But Sunny feels Billy isn’t handling it properly, making himself the victim, instead of being contrite, remorseful. More talk about cancel culture, spectrum of bad behavior, more nuanced perspective on case by case basis. Whoopi says make sure whoever you’re cancelling is actually guilty.
Sunny legal disclaimer: Mark Halperin has denied unwanted physical interactions but has previously acknowledged he did pursue relationships with women he worked with and that his behavior was inappropriate and he apologized
Hot Topic An App for Aunt Flo
Whoopi is baffled at an app that helps you track when your period (Aunt Flo) comes. App obtains very sensitive personal info (like sexual activity), then it was revealed to have been shared with 3rd party vendors. Joy says she’s been ovulating since the Berlin wall (lol the panel has a good guffaw over this). Whoopi is like, it comes once a month, write it on a calendar /boomer people.
Sunny legal disclaimer: App maker says it does not share personal or medical data (/lies)
ALERT Next Democratic Debate Thursday 12 September 8PM-11PM Eastern in Houston TX on ABC and Univision
